It Aint No Toga Party

I met Nick El Mizzoubanazo in person this past weekend and can honestly say, with a juventud like his and his fellow CAUSA clan, the cause for a free Cuba is alive and well in this next generation. As I mentioned on last night's radio show, it will most probably be their generation - the university set - that will someday ultimately play the biggest role in the revival of Cuba and it's transition from the dark age that has befallen the island nation.

Nick is the president of his campus CAUSA organization and he wanted to highlight their upcoming Evolution Campus Tour:

As you may know, I am the President (and fouder) of the University of Missouri-Columbia's Cuban American Undergraduate Student Association (CAUSA). ...Our group is a part of the Raíces de Esperanza network...

As you probably don't know, RDE's Evolution Campus Tour is just around the corner.Raíces de Esperanza will be making its way up the East Coast and stopping at FIVE college campuses.

Here is the explanation if the tour from RDE's website:

EVOLUTION CAMPUS TOUR 2007

April 15 - April 22

Raíces de Esperanza directors and coordinators will visit five universities over the course of five days to meet with affiliated-student groups and deliver presentations on the Evolution Project, a cultural awareness campaign to generate mass-appeal and international solidarity for the Cuban people by promoting humanity’s inherent need for freedom of expression.

Each campus tour stop will include a presentation on a specific topic meant to actively engage youth or participants in Cuba (via conference call). The Tour group will also visit with various non-governmental organizations based in Washington that focus on youth advocacy and Cuban affairs.

The final tour stop will be a two-day conference at the University of Pennsylvania, which will include: academic panels, open-forum discussions and reflections, live art and musical performances and an all-day training for affiliated student and young professional leaders. Two campuses will also host photography and art exhibits.

The tour stops at the following campuses:

University of Florida
Duke University
University of Virginia
New York University
University of Pennsylvania (the main event)

Check out Nick's blog for more informationon the Evolution Campus Tour and, iffin you can, support their efforts by spreading the word and making a donation or two. And, if you've got family or friends or your own kids attending any of the fine academic institutions mentioned above, give 'em a little nudge and urge them to attend the Evolution Tour, the CAUSA and Raices kids will make them feel right at home and perhaps light that little Cuba flame that resides in the hearts and souls.

Was there ever a cause too lost,
Ever a cause that was lost too long,
Or that showed with the lapse of time to vain
For the generous tears of youth and song?

Hey! Thank for putting this up... just one thing..

That "Main event" is ACTUALLY AT UPENN... that was totally my screw-up, but if yiou could just get in there whenever and edit it that would be great.

Thanks again for the support, Val.

My band, delexilio, will be performing at the NYU stop, and I will be performing as musical backup for recent arrivals, the Cuban hip-hop group "El Cartel" at the UPenn stop! I'm very excited for this awesome event...

ONE MORE THING:
Val is right. The Raices group really made me feel at home and now I'm one of them. Encourage the young people you know to join, or participate...

give them a nudge, because when a bunch of young Cuban kids get together, una pachanga es inevitable...
