Useful Idiocy 101

A member of the faculty of The Beacon School - a high school in New York City - is in some hot water for illegally taking students on a "field trip" to Cuba.

April 16, 2007 -- A group of Manhattan public high-school students and a history teacher with a soft spot for Cuba flouted federal travel restrictions by taking a spring-break field trip to the communist nation - and now face up to $65,000 apiece in fines, The Post has learned.

While this illegal field trip does get my ire up, the following really pust me over the top:

Turner, 35, a popular teacher whose classroom walls, students said, are adorned with posters of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara, declined to comment.

So we have a Mr. Nathan Turner, 35 year old teacher extraordinaire, professing adulation for one fidel castro and one che guevara - clearly two men responsible for the complete and utter destruction of a country and both responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Cubans - while never having lived in Cuba as a Cuban and cheering the communist dictator and his cohorts from the comfort of the United States of America. Turner is the epitomy - the poster child - of a vicarious communist.

Do you all think that a Cuban teacher in Cuba would be allowed to have posters of George Bush and Dick Cheney up on his or her classroom walls? Moreover, do you think said Cuban teacher would be allowed a field trip to NYC?

Send Mr. Turner your thoughts: nturner@beaconschool.org
