Tonight on the Babalu Radio Hour

We have another very special guest waiting in the wings for the Babalu Radio Hour program on BlogTalk Radio. None other than our very own National Book Award winner Carlos Eire, Yale University professor and author of "Waiting for Snow in Havana." I know many of you have already read his excellent memoir, so if you have any questions you'd like us to ask Dr. Eire click here and let us know via email or call in during the program.
If you havent read Waiting for Snow in Havana yet, I highly recommend it. You can purchase your copy right here. Trust me, you will not be able to put it down. I'm also told the book will be available in Spanish sometime this fall.
When I started reading Waiting for Snow in Havana, the prose was so complete, so indulging and so downright perfect that I searched for and found the professor's email. I cant remember what it is I wrote him, but he responded like a old friend, a kindred spirit and a person you immediately feel is a part of your own story. A search for "Carlos Eire" on Babalu is proof of that.
So dont forget to tune in, folks, tonight at 8 pm.
Update: A huge thanks to the Professor for his candor and graciousness. We apologize to those callers who werent able to get through - we just couldnt stop talking! Hopefully, the good Professor will be on Babalu Radio once again soon. And, like I told Dr. Eire when I called him back to thank him, in the words of my Madrina, Salmo 23.

Love the show. I'm listening live. It would be cool, for those of us who don't have confident phone voices...or a good cell phone signal from the pub...to be able to instant message or email questions. Just a thought. Keep up the good work. I'm drinking a pint in the pub, watching gametracker coverage of fsu-uf baseball and listening to babalu radio. It doesn't get any better. Peace.

"It's a given." When you talked about family and friends being imprisoned, and how it's a given, it reminded me of the quote by Moynihan about the irish that I think applies so much to Cubans. "To be Irish (or Cuban), in the end, means the world will break your heart. It's, unfortunately, a given.

Sorry for spamming the comments, but this has been the best Babalu Radio Hour yet. Thank you.

jsb, I agree it had me in tears. Ditto about the Irish, and that also applies to Jews.

You know, I'm listening to this show at my desk as I write this. One of the most eloquent speakers in the Cuba-American community. God bless 'im.
