Remembering castro's Venezuela invasion
As the grave beckons, castro often looks like a raggedy pathetic beggar dictator, in a mirror image of what he's made Cuba. He's viewed as weak, though many also view him with phony nostalgia, too, a relic of vigor and idealism. Barf. Decades ago, it wasn't like that. Back when Cuba was still rich, and castro was gnawing away at the once-rich nation's entrails like a wolf, he also bared his fangs for other evil aggressions.
Forty years ago this week, castro sent his troops to invade then-free Venezuela. His invaders landed on the Marchurocuto coast of the South American mainland, and then proceeded to bloodily slaughter all the Venezuelans who desperately tried to defend their homeland. Can you imagine the terror? It was the pre-Internet age and the U.S. Marines were then preoccupied in Vietnam and the U.S., under Gullible JFK had long made a promise not to bother castro, no matter what he did, thus emboldening him. The Venezuelans had only themselves to rely on to repel castro's surprise violent attack. Venezuelan coastal troops fought back and took many casualties. But they headed him off.
For awhile.
Today, castro's got a fat, sloppy buffoon puppet in Caracas' Miraflores Palace who is systematically dismantling all freedoms that ever existed in Venezuela as he amasses power. He lives and rules like Nero. But his model and mentor is castro. He's also impoverishing the country as castro impoverished his. The dictator controls much of the media now, and has not allowed the press to make even one mention of his mentor's effort to rape the nation he now rules.
Sicker still, Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez has put up a memorial to the castroites who invaded Venezuela and slaughtered Venezuelans!
Feathers MacGraw, a Venezuelan exile, writes a fine piece about this sick string of events going on unnoticed in communist Venezuela, here.
