Happy Mother's Day

To all of our writers who are moms, to the moms of our writers, and to all of the moms of our readers, the crew here at Babalu want to wish you a happy and healthy Mother's Day.

(I started the day helping my son in the kitchen making my world-famous scrambled eggs with fresh cream and perfectly crisp bacon for my wife. What did you do?)

I also want to show Mother's Day love to 'mi Tia Concha' who, while not having children of her own, was like a mother to me and my siblings. She took care of me while my mother worked; she was always there with a kind word or gesture to comfort a small boy's heart; she feed us, clothed us, helped raise us and now shares in the success that my brother, sister and I have thanks to my mother and my Tia Concha. Un beso grande Tia.

And happy Mother's Day to all those 'spiritual' mothers that have given of themselves to children that may not have been their own but who's heart was so big that they blessed those children with the motherly love of a selfless person. I am eternally grateful to them.

I just grilled up a superb, rare flat iron steak with Israeli couscous and a spinach avacado salad. The esposa was impressed.

What about those of us who never got married, had no kids, y nos quedamos para ser tia? There should be a special holiday for us!
