Ding Dong
I've been of the opinion for some time now that the bearded dictator is dead as a doornail. Kaput. Maggot food. Colgo los tenis. It's not just that he hasnt appeared in public despite numerous occassions and celebrations where his presence has always been ubiquitous, but because every "photo" and every "video" made available of the man has been released by the Cuban government - and we all know how honest and truthful that entity is. Add to that fidel's recent "blogging" in Granma as El Guinero puts it and, at least to me, the circumstances are just overwhelmingly odd. Seems everything coming out vis-a-vis fidel castro is meant to convince us that the bastard is still alive.
The latest screed from the bearded cadaver in Granma is about his health and I think Child of the Revolution has the right attitude about it:
The 80-year-old dictator claims he is a lot better now but he is far, far too busy writing newspaper articles and reading documents and talking on the phone to have any time at all to cut his hair or to trim his trademark beard. And that, he says, is the reason why he has not appeared in public.
So, now you know.
Ding dong the witch is dead...

Val,
I agree with you. I wholeheartedly believe that the bearded witch died a long time ago, or she would have come out during the May 1st celebrations even if for a minute, or at some other important event. It would only have taken a minute to convince everyone that she is convalescing and on her way to governing again. Even a momentary glimpse out a window waving at the crowd, but NO.
All that we see of cadaver-in-chief are pictures as you say taken by the Cuban government and how reliable are they? PULEEZ! We don't even see video anymore. The last video is from September or October. And one didn't need an advanced degree in medicine to see that he was dying in the last video.
IN any case, what bothers me the most is the complicity of the mainstream media. The MSM are pittbulls when they think that any conservative, republican or US-friendly foreign government is trying to pull the wool over their eyes, but when the Cuban government tells them that the comatose-dante is blogging away, writing editorials, or talking on the phone 24/7, they all let out a hugh sigh of relieve and breathlessly repeat--without changing a word--the Cuban government's press releases as naively as a four year old that is told that Santa will bring her dolls, toys and teddybears for Christmas!

He is no more? He has ceased to be? You're saying he passed on. Are you sure he isn't simply 'resting' or maybe stunned? Joined the invisible choir now has he. You sure he isn't just pining for the fjords?
Gotta have fun somehow ya know...

100% agreement with Ray. Has any of the news media brought out Chavez as a liar, being he was the one who said Fidel was jogging through the Cuban countryside at night 8 months ago?
I too believe he is dead or completely off his rocker. Too busy to shave and comb his hair, what crap! The report should have said, "I'm too busy being dead to appear in public."

Why do you think the castros have accelerated the "giving" of stolen property to the likes of that Canadian company, using their friend Michael Moore and their pet lobbyists to bug us about dropping the embargo, and so on? If the old bitch is dead, you BET the Europeans are quietly planning to liquidate Cuban accounts to pay Cuban debts.
As much as it irks me to see people abscond with what rightfully belongs to the Cuban people, it may be worth it if it forces raul and some of the other big boys in Havana into exile. Why exile instead of death? Because you can always threaten them with an "Eichmann" if they ever come within a million miles of screwing with the succeeding government. Trying to kill them a) might not work and b)they have had almost 50 years to get personnel and resources in place designed to screw with a successor government----look at the results Saddam Hussein got with much less time to prepare.

I for one certainly wish he is dead, but I strongly suspect that, as Lori put it, he is "completely off his rocker". We've seen several indications of this in the more recent videos. This morning, as I was driving to work, I tuned on to Radio Mambi, which I do from time to time, and they mentioned that Ricardo Alarcon said yesterday that Fidel was doing much better "physically". He stressed the word physically, but made not mention of his mental state. A possible slip of the tung, indicating perhaps that the man really is toast!
I suspect, we won't be seeing much El Coma-Andante anytime soon. In fact, the next time we see him, it will probably be in a box. They will never show him in a deteriorating mental state. The question is how long do we have to wait before we see him again? I never thought I'd say this, but I wish to see him again real soon!
PS: Val, it was a pleasure meeting you at Cuba Nostalgia. Thanks for the cigar!

I think it's more likely that he's alive but too out of it mentally to be presentable. Given that he's been practically defined by verborrhea all his life, the fact he can no longer talk is more or less the equivalent of having died. It's basically a case of the living dead, but the theatrics will continue as long as they can be sustained and appear to be of any use to the regime. The MSM, of course, are enabling the farce, but that's par for the course.

Can't we just declare him dead? We wouldn't have to take it back until he proves otherwise.

These are the words that fidel should be ruminating on:
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment"
Hebrews 9:27
