Do you know why, Senator Feinstein?
In her appearance yesterday on Fox News Sunday, Senator Diane Feinstein (D, CA) said she is 'looking at' reviving the fairness doctrine:
I do believe in fairness. I remember when there was a fairness doctrine, and I think there was much more serious, correct reporting to people. [...] I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way. [my emphasis]
Talk radio is overwhelmingly conservative because of the marketplace. You guys tried to present "the other side" and the people voted with their pocketbooks: Air America was -- and I'm sorry for the understatement -- a dismal failure. One question for you Senator Feinstein: will you be the arbiter of what I hear? Will you (and your ever-tolerant leftist colleagues) determine what is "serious" and what is "correct"?
As I discussed with Henry and Ziva on last week's BabaluBlog Radio hour, this talking point among the "tolerant" left is becoming more common in their public discourse. The fact that they have to consider legislation to muzzle conservative thought on the public airwaves is a sign of their desperation. Why? Their message does not resonate with the vast majority of Americans, and they have to ram it down our throats using the MSM. If you want proof of what I'm writing here, look no further to the Immigration Bill languishing in the Senate and primarily supported by none other that Ted ("I never met an entitlement I didn't like") Kennedy (D, MA). That bill is on life support; God willing, it will fail for the second time in as many months.
We the people speak, and our legislators have to listen. That is the way the founders intended the system to work. Any other way is the way of the Nazis or the Communists.

She won't come to talk radio to be interviewed because she avoids answering questionable business practices by her and her husband, not to mention senatorial ethics violations galore, that cost her a seat on her favorite committee.
All these power-hungry leftists are like roaches when you turn on the light of truth on them.

She's wrong on all counts. The fairness doctrine does not apply to news programs - hence the liberal slant on the national news programs with no ability by conservatives to force them to report the other side.
