A bust of el che will replace the Virgen de Cormoto in Maracaibo

More proof that chavez belongs in hell:

In another defiant gesture against the democratic and spiritual sensibilities of the people of Venezuela, its ruler, Lt. Col. Hugo Chávez Frías, has determined that after August 5th, when the government takes over the management of the hospital in Maracaibo, its name will be changed from Hospital Virgen de Coromoto to that of Argentinean guerrilla fighter, Ernesto Che Guevara, who executed hundreds of Cubans in Havana. As everyone knows, Guevara was a fundamental factor in the entrenchment of the fierce Marxist-Leninist tyranny of Fidel Castro. All those who are familiar with the characteristics of the people of Venezuela know that they are devotedly Catholic and that they have a profound devotion for the Virgen de Coromoto. To the Venezuelans, the Virgen de Coromoto is a symbol of spiritual union, of Christian faith that is beyond the agnostic sectors that exist or could exist in the country.

Not only will the name of the hospital be changed but also, what is even worse, the venerated statue of the Virgen de Coromoto has been taken away from the entry to that hospital and it will be replaced by a bust of Guevara. That bust could be placed in a house where terrorism and the totalitarian doctrine of Marxism-Leninism are promoted, but never in a hospital and, even less, replacing the Virgen de Coromoto.

This is insane. And it's also a travesty that the Bush administration has ignored Latin America to the degree that Chavez is able to operate this freely. While Pat Robertson was off his rocker to publicly call for the assassination of Chavez, it was what needed to happen. And now, by having failed to resolve the Chavez question in a timely manner, we've condemned ourselves to another geopolitical disaster for the USA. Someone explain to me, please, how the Republican party in this country can go from the anti-communist party of freedom to an ineffectual group of back-biting foreign policy lightweights?

Given Venezuela's oil wealth and the current crude prices, the country SHOULD be in a great position, and its entire society should be reaping, or poised to reap, tremendous benefits. It's beyond insane that, INSTEAD, it's stuck in an increasingly totalitarian hole which gets worse by the day, with no end in sight, and at the mercy of the megalomaniacal whims of a cheap thug in expensive clothing.

This is like a young, beautiful, accomplished woman getting hitched to a schizophrenic leper with AIDS. It's completely irrational, and yet, it's evidently pretty much par for the course for Latin America. I'm sorry, but we're either talking mental retardation or psychiatric disorder.
