BREAKING: FIDEL CASTRO IS DEAD

My cellphone has not stopped ringing for the past ten minutes. Various sources inform that an announcement will come within the next few minutes from the Cuban government on Cuban TV and media. Stay tuned and we'll see if we've been manipulated once again or if today is the birth date of Cuba's liberty.

Update: Here's the deal and what I know up to now, as of 1500 hours, August 24, 2007:

First, South Florida Law Enforcement is on alert. An EOC (Emergency Operations Center) has been set-up and manned somewhere in Homestead.

Im also told Local and State government agencies have food, bottled water, and other necessities - valued in the millions - stored and/or staged in Homestead at or near the EOC.

I am presently verifying whether Coast Guard and DHS and Border Patrol agencies are on high alert. (Verified 01445)

Local News stations are abuzz, mostly on reports very much like the above, with massive law enforcemnt mobilizations throughout Dade county.

Local emergency medical services notified to be on alert by law enforcement agencies.

Im told - and still awaiting confirmation - that buses in Havana have been recalled to terminals and that Cuban workers have been sent home. (still unconfirmed 1500)

Again, I am loathe to publish the title as I did in this post, but I would be remiss in not telling you all what I know, right now. All of my sources are good but the Cuban government, as we all know, is masterful at controlling media and information and we should not rule out that this and last Friday's "news" have been and are feelers to see what the reactions are here, as well as who reacts within the island. If we've been duped we've been duped. If not, then bust out the champagne.

Once again, these may all be rumor to discredit us and other media sources. All we can do is exactly what we've been doing for quite some time now: wait and see.

More from Killcastro, with sources from within Cuba.

Update 1531: Just got off the phone with a local Congressman's media relations person: Nothing is official, lots of buzz, no confirmation. However, was told something that may make unfortunate sense: the Cuban government has gotten us all riled up only to proudly and snidely display fidel castro in full green fatigues regalia. I know it's difficult right now, for me especially (trust me), but we need to keep our wits about us and trust only that which we can verify.

Update 1630: Server overloaded, going up and down. If server is down, please go to CubanAmericanpundits on teh sidebar for further updates.

I can only hope and pray for all of my Cuban friends here that this is true.

Just thinking about it puts a shine on my weekend.

Posted by: PTG [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 03:13 PM

This is incredibly exciting...new to the blog...how strong is this rumour compared to ones in the past. Other blogs are reporting his death and are saying the announcement will come from US officials..does this make sense?

Posted by: LongIslandCubano [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 03:21 PM

The possibility is also all over Tampa as well - I am not cuban but I have received three calls so far today from family and friends with the same news that Fidel is gone - time will tell - thoughts and prayers to all for a free Cuba

According to Perez-Hilton an announcement is coming:

LongIslandCubano,

This is definitely the strongest rumor I can remember, given his illness and other hints that have been leaked.

As Val just noted however, let's wait for the actual word. We've been fooled many times in the past.

"...to proudly and snidely display fidel castro in full green fatigues regalia..." May it be so, in a coffin!

Posted by: jluix [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 03:37 PM

Perezhilton is saying that the announcement will come from US officials. Unless the US had undeniable intelligence, why would the US make an announcement prior to the cuban govt?

he may be dead but there is no announcement planned

Posted by: CubanRedneck [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 03:55 PM

I don't think you'd run such a headline without some reliable info, but I have to say it seems a bit premature right now. I see nothing on any of the foreign wires right now. Let's wait and see

Posted by: daniel_in_garanhuns [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 04:13 PM

I think if there is the possibility of an announcement, I would think it would be more reasonable for the people in Cuba to be told in the evening when most of the people are home already. The less on the street the better it is for the government.

I'm of the opinion that the bastard S.O.B. has been dead for quite some time, I could be wrong but nevertheless, whenever the moment comes, it would be one of mixed feelings for me, joy that the psychopathic oppressive deceiver has taken a step closer to divine judgment and sorrow for all that has been lost for almost half a century, I don't need to give details about the magnitude of the disaster that castrismo-communism has caused to our people. I'm not supposed to drink alcoholic beverages due to medications that I have to take daily, I have stopped taking them on Thursdays and Fridays for a few weeks, the Dom has been chilled and awaits the right moment. Viva Cuba LIBRE!!!

Posted by: Angel Garzon [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 07:02 PM

To paraphrase the Godfather, II: For hell! For hell! For hell!

May Castro's communist paradise come to an end with little suffering and loss of life for Cubanos.

Please take this in the best of ways. I love this Blog and all you do for CA's. But in a desire to scoop the msm we are playing right into cuba's hand. We are getting lathered up for nothing. It really isn't worth the letdown. Lets wait till they show the body, it doesn't matter who says it first then we will celebrate.

Posted by: pototo [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 08:38 PM

We are no longer playing into Castro's hands when we guess he is dead... so much water and floating logs have passed under the bridge that the Cuban government has only one choice admit that Castro is dead or show him live even if they have to keep him standing up with using an inserted lollipop stick... Raul may be easier he would like the lollipop stick,

Posted by: Larry Daley [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 08:50 PM

I agree with Larry.

Posted by: R S [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 09:15 PM

Call me silly, but I see nothing counter-productive in getting all "lathered up" every so often about this. My personal belief is that the guy is dead, for sure figuratively, and very possibly even literally. Every time one of these rumors gets started, we wait for confirmation with happy anticipation that THIS TIME might be THE ONE.

Hell, consider it a dress rehersal for the one time when it will really counts. No harm done, some fun enjoyed, and a drink or two quaffed as a warm up.

We may look a little odd to those who don't understand (or care to understand) our pain. But who cares. The ones with real egg on their face are raul and company who cannot produce a living, breathing coma-andante. If he is writing, being consulted, offering advise, calling el burro chavez, etc. then I say to them "prove it." They can't.

Posted by: LittleGator [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 10:06 PM

Postscript:

They control the timing of the official announcement.

We control when and how we celebrate. Nothing wrong with celebrating early and often.

Posted by: LittleGator [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 10:08 PM

Well put, LittleGator.

Posted by: jluix [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 10:16 PM

I believe he has been dead for a long time now.

BUT...we are being tested and they are winning, let us not fall into their hands with all these fake rumors..who ever are starting these rumors might be someone who wants us to think they are on our side, and they might be working for SATANS side.

Remember..next time ignore the rumors, until we get it staight from the good USA They will know believe me first hand.

Posted by: lapuntilla [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 10:34 PM

Puntilla,

I understand what you are saying, but I have to disagree. El choteo es una gran tradicion cubana, y un arma efectiva contra la autoridad.

At this late stage, corriendo bolas about the "insepulto's" multiple deaths, simplemente se chotea this strung-out melodrama. The man is currently irrelevant, the other side has treated his medical condition as some sort of national security secret. Yet, he is nothing but an empty shell, a shadow of his former self, or perhaps by now an otherwordly shadow. Keeping his status a secret is a comedy of the absurd(remember the video in the elevator?). Ni Tres Patines lo hace mejor. That was terribly funny.

By killing him off time and again, we continue to treat him as what he is: an object of morbid curiosity, a circus clown, and nothing more. Below, I have pasted something I found on another website about choteo a lo cubano. Enjoy.

So, lets keep killing the guy off. One of these days, it will really happen.

Posted by: LittleGator [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 24, 2007 10:45 PM

I agree with LittleGator, fuck fidel. I just drove by the Versailles and it is full of CubanAmericans celebrating! When this rumor becomes reality, the celebration will be massive!

Posted by: Jose Aguirre [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 25, 2007 12:16 AM

One major issue is our credibility. No one is saying not to chill the bottle. But if we keep crying wolf then when we do need to rally the troops who will believe it? Thats my point.

As the next generation of Cuban-Americans it is our duty to be at the forefront of all activities entrepreneurial, political, spiritual and intellectual in nature. We are the leaders of our culture and as so must have deep rooted convictions in all of our actions. We do not have direct relationships with our mother country in the ways that our parents have, but the nostalgia and recognition of OUR struggle still remains rushing fervently within our veins. We are more than just a company that sells Anti-Castro shirts, we are a movement that promotes the future welfare for Cuba. WE do not believe in the Tyrant and hence reduce his power with the proud messages displayed proudly on our apparel. We are the voice of the Cuban-Americans. We are the Real Cuba.

http://www.castroestamuerto.com

We believe that although Fidel is most likely dead, but it is still unannounced and therefore the weight has not been lifted off our parents and grandparents. We do believe that the Tyrant Effect Castro inflicted upon Cubans emigrants HAS NOT been transfered to us, the children of our parents. We are making these shirts to let the world know that Castro is most likely DEAD and his idea to spread fear into Cubans who once lived in Cuban is also DEAD. Castro is no longer alive in our minds or hearts.
