Who needs a stairmaster?
Question: How many residential elevators are there in all of Havana?
Answer: 562, many in disrepair
Question: How many were there in 1959?
Answer: 553, all were most likely in good working order
With a population exceeding more than 2 million, the city fathers of Havana have managed to install 9 new elevators in 48 years. All to maintain the proper health of its citizens, I'm sure.

I read somewhere where all new construction in Cuba had a four story height limitation, specifically so as not to need elevators, given the irregularity of electricity.

And you need special fire fighting equipment to fight fires over 5 stories. If their cars are vintage '40s and '50s, I wonder what their emergency services vehicles are like?
