Vanities of the absurd, defending a ghost
Folks, we couldn’t make this up. Media Matters, watchdog of “conservative" media takes Fox and guest Michelle Malkin to task over their coverage of "castro's" endorsement of a Clinton-Obama ticket.
Missing are any questions about fidel having authored the article. Honestly, I can't decide whether to laugh or to cry.
Fox graphics falsely asserted Castro "wants" Clinton-Obama as "dream team" Summary: During a Fox & Friends segment discussing an August 28 column by Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, on-screen text falsely asserted, "CASTRO'S DREAM TEAM: WANTS CLINTON AND OBAMA IN '08," referring to Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Also during the segment, an on-screen graphic depicted Castro, Clinton, and Obama enclosed in a red heart. In fact, at no point in his column did Castro endorse Clinton or Obama. Indeed, he attributed to Clinton and Obama a pro-democratic view that he called an "error," and he said of Clinton and Obama, "They are not making politics: they are playing a game of cards on a Sunday afternoon."During the August 29 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, during a segment discussing an August 28 column by Cuban dictator Fidel Castro in the Cuban newspaper Granma, on-screen text falsely asserted, "CASTRO'S DREAM TEAM: WANTS CLINTON AND OBAMA IN '08," referring to Democratic presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (NY) and Barack Obama (IL). Also during the segment, an on-screen graphic depicted Castro, Clinton, and Obama enclosed in a red heart. In addition, during the August 28 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, guest host Michelle Malkin previewed an upcoming segment by falsely claiming that "Fidel Castro, of all people, endorses a Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama presidential ticket." Malkin went on to ask, "What is that all about?" In fact, at no point in his column did Castro endorse Clinton or Obama. Indeed, he attributed to Clinton and Obama a pro-democratic view that he called an "error," and he said of Clinton and Obama, "They are not making politics: they are playing a game of cards on a Sunday afternoon."
What kind of altered universe is this? Bad enough that so-called journalists have gleefully disseminated castro's propaganda for the last 50 years, but now a media watchdog group is rightously defending the non-existent integrity of that propagandist? Absurd.

I started calling Fidel's Reflections
"another evergreen Reflection from the ghost(writer) of Fidel Castro"
so that about sums it up from my perspective and I will continue to call them that until somebody can prove to me that I am wrong.
(PS By evergreen I am implying that IF Fidel did write these latest Reflections, he wrote them many months or weeks ago and wrote them in such a way that they can be released over the upcoming months so if/when he is dead his Reflections will still come out as though he is alive.
We may not agree on all things Cuban but I'm with you on this one.

Ziva,
You are absolutely right! They are defending a "ghost!"
Which begs the question: Why on earth does our normally cynical media take the word of a regime that has been proven time-and-time again to be a bunch of liars at face value? So, the regime says that these editorials were written by a man who has not been seen live in over a year except in a few doctored videos and we have to accept it as the bible truth! NO QUESTIONS ASKED by our Pitbull media that doesn't think twice about eviscerating public figures!
And this leads me to my next question: WHY ON EARTH does the American press care so much what Castro thinks to the point of hanging on his every word and repeating it verbatim and uncritically in our national newspapers? I mean, the American press doesn't go around repeating the opinions of the presidents of Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Taiwan, Italy, Romania, etc..etc.. And those countries are more important than Cuba: a bankrupt third world dictatorship!
Is something wrong with this picture? Is this complicity or what?
AT THE RISK OF SOUNDING REPEATING MYSELF, I will say this again, THE CUBAN REGIME HAS NO NEED TO SELL GRANMA OR JUVENTUD REBELDE IN THE USA, BECAUSE THE AMERICAN MEDIA REPRINTS WHATEVER IS WRITTEN IN THESE GOVERNMENT ORGANS WORD FOR WORD IN OUR NATIONAL PRESS AND WE BUY IT!

Guys,
Media Matters is a very left leaning, Soros funded organization.

Val, I assumed our readers all know that. I posted it because I've had it up to here with the castro said chorus. Why not pick on them?

I think you're missing the point by a smidgen. Media Matters wasn't defending the integrity of Castro, they were defending Obama and Clinton from the accusation that they were being "endorsed" by Fidel Castro. It's clear from their reaction that they don't see being associated with Castro as being a good thing, so it's not exactly a case of pro-Castro anything.

MMerchant- I didn't say it was pro castro, what I was pointing out was the absurdity of the following:
Fox graphics falsely asserted Castro "wants" Clinton-Obama as "dream team"
In fact, at no point in his column did Castro endorse Clinton or Obama.
They have no way of knowing if castro is even alive, let alone what he is or isn't writing or who he's endorsing. It's the fact that they accept without question that fidel wrote the article I was ridiculing. I accept that I failed to make that clear. Thanks

Fair enough, and a valid point.

If there's any question as to which US political Party Fidel and the Cuban Government has always supported, I recommend you read the book by Jose LLovio-Menendez, titled "Insider; My Hidden Life as a Revolutionary in Cuba." Towards the end of the book, specifically page 423, he lays out just how supportive Fidel was of the Democrats, basically, because they were and still are pushovers. The book was written in the late 80s. Here is just one powerful quote from the book, attributed to Fidel ; "If the Democratic party were in power for twenty years, Communism would make considerable progress in the world." That's just one of countless comments about the weakness of the liberals in this country and how easy they are to manipulate. The book also quotes Fidel as saying the "Yanqui press" is the best disseminator of the regime's propaganda. Folks, I can assure you the Cuban Government still feels that way - my day job allows me to know those things that don't always get out in public.
