It's Friday, and I have an unconfirmed rumor...

No, it's not about you-know-who. I just heard from a very reliable source that The Police will be closing their world tour with a free concert in...

Havana.

Why? The source explained that Sting feels the Cuban people need music. I wonder if they'll invite Darsi Ferrer, Oscar Elias Biscet, or the Ladies in White to the concert? So much for moral consistency.

Any other info would be appreciated.

So what are Sting's views on Cuba/Castro?

Well, Arturo Toscanini refused to conduct at Bayreuth after Hitler took power, so we kinda know he was against National Socialism. Since Sting and the Police are playing Havana, what can we make of that? Are they enablers of the regime, protestations about the concert being for "the people", notwithstanding?

F music!!! The people of Cuba need freedom-

Nurian! My sensitive ears! He he he. I agree with you. What purpose is served by their concert? Will the "people" of Cuba, starved for liberty and a normal life, be any better after they leave?

Let them eat cake, and attend a rock concert.

I guess it depends on why he's doing it for me so I hold a somewhat open mind on the guy, though the history of entertainment types on Castro means my mind still leans toward closed and ready to slam shut at moment's notice.

If he feels sorry for the Cuban people because of what Castro has done, then okay. I'll never do a gig there until Cuba is free -- but at least Sting's intentions would still be well above the Danny Glover-ites. But if he blames Cuba's troubles on America, then.....

SLAAAAAMMMMMM!!!!!

Whatever Sting and The Police do or do not do tour-wise and concert-wise is about Sting and the Police. The Cuba connection, if utilized, is simply something seen as advantageous to their interests. I suspect they want to have their cake and eat it, too, and they will absolutely not take the bull by the horns, so to speak (though it's highly probable they will dutifully condemn the embargo). At best, they'll be wishy-washy, vague and "non-political."

I really wish somebody would tell these celebrity goody-two-shoes to stick to what they're fit for and stop playing at being Savior of the Universe. Enough bad theater, already.

It would be a breath of fresh air if they had enough nerve to say "Vive America, down with Castro." Would the Castro machine have the nerve to arrest them or otherwise cause them problems?

We see the moral inconsistencies in this and other celebrities, but my thought is that these people are clueless and will remain so, because they've never had to live under marxist-leninist-totalitarian conditions.

We get more empathy from the Czechs than we do the Canadians ..... why would that be?

Like hell! They need a sandwich.

Here is another unconfirmed rumor in the Cuban exile community.
OSCAR CORRAL'S WIFE IS SEPARATED FROM HIM AND IS DEMANDING A DIVORCE after his solicitation of a teenage prostitute last August 4.
As a result OSCAR CORRAL IS UNDER PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT! That explains why he hasn't been writing or blogging for the Miami Herald since his arrest.
Corral is now experiencing the despair of the people left jobless last year as a result of his irresponsible articles in the Herald. What goes around comes around.

Cubans need a concert by the Police like Paris Hilton needs more media exposure, like Hillary Clinton needs a man, like Ann Coulter needs to say what she really feels, like a fish needs a bicycle, like France needs more cheese eating surrender monkeys, like Michael Vick needs a pet... don't stop me now, I'm on a roll.

I guess Sting chose to ignore the efforts of BUCL after all. What can you expect from a man who demands the freedom of a convicted cop killer? (Mumia Abu Jamal)

Some time ago, I wrote a petition to Sting that can be seen here:
