20/20 recap
Very happy tonight about several things I saw on 20/20. They may not seem related but I think in a certain way they are. The first story was about Chris Hanson and the NBC show "to catch a predator". This is the first time that I can think of that one of the major networks has called out another on how it helped to fabricate the news. This can only be good. People accept that the media is the watchdog of the government but who watches the media? In the past, this has been a closed club that protects its members. Now perhaps we will see some real whistle blowing. Perhaps the executives at these big news organizations will realize that bucking the trend can generate more viewers.
The next clip was about a National Geographic special that's coming up about the human body. The clip showed some of the amazing video that can now be obtained from inside the body and featured a doctor talking about how all of these advances make new, less invasive and more effective surgical procedures possible. Question: Where are all these advances in health care taking place? Is it in Sweden or Cuba or other places with "free" socialized medicine?
Which brings us to the last segment of the night. Michael Moore being taken to task for his obvious misrepresentation of Cuban health care in his aptly titled agitprop film "Sicko". The most laughable thing is how quickly he was ready to abandon his defense of Cuba, when John Stossel cornered him:
"Cuba is the red herring, let's stick to Canada and Britain," he said.
Let's not forget that it was Moore who brought the whole subject of Cuba up by conducting a stunt down there with 9/11 workers. Now he wants to change the subject. How convenient.
Memo to ABC: Keep digging on the Cuba angle. Nobody in the American mainstream media has taken a long, hard, and honest look at Cuba during 48 years of totalitarian dictatorship. There's much, much more for you to find.

I thought it was interesting that ABC's secret footage was the photos they lifted from therealcuba.com which have been available for years if only the media bothered to look.

They also showed some very brief camera phone footage which showed the dilapidated conditions of the typical Cuban medical facilities.

I'm just happy that someone in the media finally took an interest in Cuba and shed some, albeit, small, light on what is going on.

Wow, IMHO this was just another nail in the coffin of the extreme left wing's feel-good by deceitfully pretending to be "classic liberals" litany of B.S. Could it be possible that the MSM is finally realizing that the silent majority is sick and tired of revisionist History and biased journalism, or is it all about the bottom line, or both?
Giraldo, although his facial physiology does resemble that of many people who're "challenged," there's nothing retarded about M.M., he's an opportunist and a lier who has become a multimillionaire by selectively using and discarding people and by investing in the same corporations that he purports to dislike, he may very well be an egotistic S.O.B., but he's not retarded.
Did anyone TiVoed Stossel's segment? I would've done so had my DirecTV TiVo not kicked the bucket a few months ago, I did not replace it with the generic crap being pushed by D*, anywho, if any of you recorded it, please post it online. Thanks.

I agree with AbajoFidel, then again, sometimes some of these reporters are swept by so many socialist propaganda currents that it takes publications like The Real Cuba for the truth to finally reach them. The New York Times nor the Miami Herald, for example, have-to my knowledge-published those pictures. Blogs are exposing the abuses and misery of the dictatorship in ways the mainstream media never did.
El Gordo-not De Molina- is truly a repulsive character. "Se coje a un mentiroso más rápido que a un cojo." He made some pretty strong points though by misquoting the CIA and flawlessly corroborating his claims with evidence from "health organizations or whatever". What a guy!

Excellent report, for all the reasons stated by Henry and above.
The most heartening moment came when they showed the photo of Dr. Darsi Ferrer. Stossel didn't mention him by name, but it sounded as if they had spoken, as Stossel referred to information from a Cuban doctor.

I like the report, but John Stossel is a tool

Roberto,
"I like the report but John Stossel is a tool!!??
WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN! What is a tool? Did you mean fool? If you mean an implement that is used to achieve a purpose, aren't we all "tools". Aren't we all tools for our God, our families, our jobs, Cuba?
Stossel is doing the job he gets paid to do(very well on both counts I'm sure) and that is his style. I am not a fan either but keep on
the f*****g subject for God's sake! We finally see a reporter on a show with national exposure who has the BALLS to bitch slap Michael Moore and attempt to expose him for the lying, two faced F*%$ that he is and your best offer is..."he is a tool"!!
GOOD GOD!

Hey bro Chill, here are several definitions of a tool http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tool&r=f
many of them apply to John Stossel, he is one of those anti government hypocrats. For example, in his books he speaks badly of lawyers , yet he sued the wrestler in the video I posted for hundreds of thousands of dollars. But you are right, my posting was a little off subject. Again, I liked the report, but it was more about making Michael Moore look bad and not really about improving the conditions in Cuba. Most Americans know that Communists lie and steal. Besides, I doubt the report changes the minds of the small minority in this country that thinks Cuba has a good health care system. So yeah, I guess I enjoy it, but ese reportaje no resuelve nada para nuestra gente que se estan pudriendo en las carceles

Roberto,
Resuelve bastante, relatively speaking. I would point a few things out:
1. To suggest that a person cannot sue after criticizing the legal system is silly.
2. To suggest that Stossel is "anti-government" because he criticizes government programs is also silly. He characterizes himself as a consumer reporter. The idea behind his reports is, most of the time, to provide information necessary to make informed decisions with your money.
Not once did he say he was attempting to serve Cuba's political prisoners. This was intended to informa Americans as we approach an election in which many candidates and voters would look to countries like Cuba to take notes on how to structure our own medical care.
If there is someone out there spreading information in a sophisticated manner as Moore is and it is all so patently false, for us to criticize the John Stossels of the world for FINALLY doing their jobs and correcting the lies makes me wonder what they could possibly do to please you.
It's one thing to demand that journalists be honest. It's quite another to begin to get to the point where you ask them to be activists. for causes that are outside the scope of their jobs.

If all Cubanos are like Roberto then no wonder Castro has stayed in power all these years!
