Pirate O' the Caribbean
Just in case ye weren’t aware, today, Septembree 19th, be International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
castro be o' course th' quintessential pirate o' th' Caribbean who has spent th' last 50 voyages plunderin' th' isle, arrr o' Cuba wi' his band o' olive-drabbed scaliwags, takin' whatere they could an' leavin' a nothin' behind.
Coincidentally, we be havin' a story that ties seafarin' hearty tide t' th' Pearl o' th' Antilles.
A regime official has admitted that most o' th' software used in Cuba be pirated, on accoun' o' o' – ye guessed 't- th' American embargo -since 't prevents th' communist Government from buyin' licensed copies o' th' original programs. When asked about th' percentage o' software that be used in Cuba without licenses, Robert o' th' Port, director o' th' state Office fer Computerization, spake: "I would say that everythin'. Very wee comes officially." "I wouldna say that 'tis exactly illegal, since thar be nay a real option t' sell (th' software) t' Cuba. If thar be an' we did nay take advantage o' that option an' copied illegally, then 't would be” th' civil crewman spake t' ReutersTh' presentation t' journalists be done usin' a program o' th' American giant Microsoft an' on a screen manufactured by 3M, also o' th' United States.
Now, whe'r's me bottle o' rum?

Food for thought!!!! What would the people of Cuba and the government do 'IF' the US would get rid of the embargo? No attacks please, I am for the embargo, but if the US got rid of it, the entire island of Cuba would need new excuses for their problems, new reasons for everything that they have indoctrinated into the minds of the people of Cuba for not having the bare necessities. What would castro say, raul, the government? They would have to spend alot of money on software for one thing!!!

Jose, I don't think the Cuban people buy that argument. They know about the well stocked stores for tourists and the elite. They know what the regime is doing, they are just too exhausted and threatened to do anything about it.

Ziva, My friends wife had to go to Cuba because her mother was dying. Everyone at the hospital where her mother was staying complained about the embargo left and right! We do not have this and we do not have that because of the embargo.
My mother's aunt (only relative in Cuba) called her asking for money. She complained about the embargo and told my mother that our(US) SOB President Bush was the cause of their troubles due to the embargo! My mother got really ticked off(for lack of better words) and told her aunt the the only embargo the Cuban people had was the bast... fidel castro and hung up~!
As you can see, although I do not disagree with you that the people know there are stores, etc, etc, there are people in Cuba that support the system regardless and believe the embargo crap.
I guess we can say we agree that we disagree to a certain point.
Jose.

Jose and I've heard just the opposite from others. That they know it's not the embargoes fault. It's so screwed up, so maybe we can just agree to agree and disagree. One thing for sure, the only embargo that really matters is the one imposed upon the Cuban people by the regime, and lifting the mostly non-existent U.S. one won't fix that.

I'd heard that medical/humanitarian goods were exempt from the embargo. True or false?

Oh, and not only that, but can't they get the same stuff from the rest of the world (like Europe or Canada) that has no embargo? And do these folks at the hospital not know this?

Ziva,
I agree with you on that the regime is the one with the biggest embargo on the Cuban people.
I think I read something recently where you are in LA? I live in Coron, Riverside County. If there ever is a Cuban American function or something alike in California, we should meet!
Jose.

Definitely, there was a nice music event near Little Tokyo this past weekend but I missed it! I'm in San Pedro.
