Now we really know the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke (UPDATED)
What a sick joke.
[Gore's] strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change," the citation said. "He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted.
Save us, Al!
Michelle Malkin has more under the delicious title, "Just when you thought Al Gore’s head couldn’t get any bigger, Part II".
UPDATE: Gotta love the Czechs:
Czech president Vaclav Klaus: "surprised" at Nobel prize for Gore Prague (dpa) - Czech President Vaclav Klaus, a rare vocal global- warming sceptic among heads of state, is "somewhat surprised" that former US vice president Al Gore received the Nobel Peace Prize, the president's spokesman Petr Hajek said in a statement. "The relationship between his activities and world peace is unclear and indistinct," the statement said. "It rather seems that Gore's doubting of basic cornerstones of the current civilization does not contribute to peace."Klaus said in a recent speech that environmentalists' efforts to halt global warming "fatally endanger our freedom and prosperity."

Keep in mind: 1. He shares it with the UN, and 2. Arafat also won it.

2. Arafat also won it.
So did Henry Kissinger. It's a Peace Prize, not a canonization by the Pope.

Well I'm just glad the man finally gets recognition for SOMETHING, I mean, he never did get the proper credit for inventing the internet.

The Pope isn't a high enough authority for Al.

Why the Peace Prize? How does Al's crusade contribute to peace? As has been said elsewhere, atleast it isn't a science prize.

It's been quite clear for some time that this "Peace Prize" thing is highly questionable at best. This is simply further evidence to the effect that the people behind it are either very clueless or very shameless, probably some of both.

As I said, this is hardly a novel Nobel development, but it's certainly an embarrassment. Unfortunately, those responsible are too far gone to feel any. Maybe Gore can convince Carter to be his running mate on a Nobel Peace ticket, also known as the Nobel Clowns (or, alternately, the Denial Duo).

LOL the Denial Duo!

Hollywood hands out Oscars to their favorite lefty stars; the Nobel committee gives prizes to their favorite lefty idiots. I think they should combine the two so we only have to suffer the award hype once a year.

If we've sunk so low that Arafat can win the Peace Prize, then they might as well give one each posthumously to Hitler and Tojo.

What a great insult to those that have won the Nobel Peace Prize through honor and merit.
Al Gore now shares the "dubious" honor of the Nobel Peace Prize with other dubious characters such as:
Jimmy Carter
Rigoberta Menchu
Nelson Mandela
To win such a prize all you need to do is LIE,as in the case of Rigoberta Menchu; BURN your opponents to death as in the case of Nelson Mandela, or advance COMMUNISM and promote human rights violations as in the case of Jimmy Carter.

George -
When President Klaus is done with his term in the Czech Republic, I wish he would move to my district and run for the US Congress. A voice of sanity from the 6th CD of New Jersey would be refreshing. -S-

Since I couldn't care less about Gore, I hadn't seen any recent images of him till I followed the link to Michelle Malkin's blog. He looks very strange, both bloated and creepy, in a smarmy, asshole-lawyer way. I wouldn't trust the guy further than I could throw him. Thank God he never became president.

Yeah, the Czechs are alright.
And all you need to know about the Nobel Peace Prize is that neither Ronald Reagan nor Margaret Thatcher ever won it.
