Nothing is sacred with the &^%$*# liberals

Read this and get pissed off:

The show biz newspaper Variety reports: "G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer."

I wonder if the evil double-crossing Scottish arms dealer is modeled after George Galloway...

and I wonder if G.I. Joe will look more like Ken now.

Heh....I was always more into Major Matt Mason (anybody remember that action figure line?) than G.I. Joe, but then again I've been a Sci-Fi/space fan all my life. Other than that, what guajiro_de_Broward said.

The usual gutless lefty metrosexual pablum, no surprise at all.

But the article just isn't correct about the Navy "running away" from Guadalcanal. 10,000 American sailors were killed in the waters around G'nal to keep the 1st Marine Division supplied and protected.

After Pearl Harbor, America obviously suffered a huge disadvantage in battleships. Six months later, after the Battle of Midway where all four Japanese carriers were sunk, Japan suffered a disadvantage in air power, and worse, the loss of a huge number of experienced pilots at Coral Sea, Midway and air battles over G'nal.

Another relevant point is that in the years leading up to the war, the US Navy used rather metrosexual training techniques for their surface ships, meaning they trained in such a way that the object of the training was more to avoid accidents and damage to Navy property than to actually learn how to fight. They lacked "battle awareness", the ability to quickly maneuver and fire both individually and in formation, which gave the Japanese a HUGE advantage in surface battles early in the war, especially in night fights. (The Battle of Savo Island in particular was a devastating loss.)

But even though the American carrier fleet was also dwindling (down to two fleet carriers after the Hornet was sunk on Oct 26), they still had the advantage of Henderson Field on G'nal, which they captured the first day of the invasion -- and though there were a few close calls, never lost it -- an unsinkable carrier, in addition to the remaining fleet flat tops and a few light carriers.

The point of all that is this: There was a "changing of the guard" on the sea around G'nal every 12 hours. Because the Japanese had the advantage in size, number and quality of surface ships and sailors, their big guns ruled the waves at night, escorting troop transport ships full of reinforcements for G'nal, and frequently bombarding Henderson Field. The Americans ruled by day because the Japanese ships had little to no air cover, especially as the G'nal campaign progressed. They always made sure to get out of Dodge well before dawn so they would be out of range of American planes when the sun came up.

In otherwords, the Navy was there to the extent it could be under the circumstances. The Marines were never abandoned.
