Traveling to Cuba?

If you're planning a vacation trip to Cuba, legal or otherwise, Janet Christie at Scotsman.com has a few helpful hints:

Don't drink the water, as there are parasites.

Be careful where you walk, as the pavement is in a "poor state of repair."

"Bring your sense of humour, as everything will take longer and cost more than you expect."

And despite all the wonderful things you have heard about Cuban health care, "Pack a first-aid kit as medicines are hard to get hold of, and make sure you have plenty of sun-block."

Overall, Christie depicts Cuba as a nice place to visit, to the point I wonder what planet she is on. But she does redeem herself with one telling observation about many Cubans that, hopefully, will keep some tourists away:

While the tourists may like it as it is, many of the island's 11 million inhabitants would prefer the kind of life that's on offer just 90 miles away across the shark-infested Gulf of Mexico.
