Doctor Diplomacy

Follow me here. According to this report, the Society of Ophthalmologists in Uruguay (SUO) is refusing to work with the Cuban doctors sent to staff an eye clinic in Uruguay inaugurated November 29th and funded by Venezuela as part of “Operation Miracle.”

Their objections seem to be grounded in the fact that Cuban doctors are not eye specialists and on the way the 6 Cuban doctors have maintained their licenses- without exams. The Uruguay doctors have complained before in 2006 when patients were being sent to Cuba. Article in Spanish here.
