Holy Infamy
Dissidents get detained, harassed and abused in Cuba everyday. The media yawns. Nothing unusual, I guess. It will happen again tomorrow and the next day and the next…ad infinitum, it seems. Unusual and unique events make the news, not the mundane everyday occurrences.
So when the Cuban regime’s thugs bust down the door to a Catholic Church, during a mass, and start pepper spraying people, hauling them out, and abusing them, it makes news. Everywhere. Interesting, eye opening, take notice kind of news that focuses attention on the regime’s brutal and repressive ways. Holy Desecration!
I’ve seen this kind of news before, recently, in Maynmar. I watched, as my jaw hit the floor, another repressive and brutal regime abusing Buddhist Monks and desecrating temples. Holy Sacrilege!
I confess I had no real knowledge of Maynmar’s regime and its authoritarian brutality. I do now. Watching thousands of Monks taking to the streets with nothing but their orange robes, sandals and their convictions, made me take notice. Their brave and selfless sacrifice focused the world’s attention to the plight of the people of Maynmar.
Today in Cuba, on this day of historical infamy, the “Ministry of the Opiate of the Masses”, afraid of the world-wide repercussions that the incident can have for the regime, has apologized for what happened in Santa Teresita. It was a mistake-meaning they’re sorry that they let the news leak out because some pesky gusano called Miami. They’ll work on correcting that mistake. Trust me. And then, it’s back to the normal, not really newsworthy repression. Holy Infamy!
But today could have been an extraordinary day. A news worthy, world attention focusing day. Today, the Cuban Catholic clergy could have hit the streets like the monks of Maynmar demanding an end to the oppression, dressed in black and armed with nothing but their collars, a crucifix and their convictions. One of two things could have happened. One, the regime does nothing, fearing world condemnation. Or, Two, they viciously stop the priests from demonstrating and expose the regime’s cruel and brutal repression to the world.
Either way, it would have been a win. A decisive, international attention getting, blow to unmask the totalitarian regime and help drive the atheist money changers from the temple of Cuba once and for all. Holy Missed Opportunity!
Instead the archbishop meets with one of the Devil’s minions who explains to the archbishop that the Devil is not really evil, he’s just the Devil. Holy Crap!

"Today, the Cuban Catholic clergy could have hit the streets like the monks of Maynmar demanding an end to the oppression, dressed in black and armed with nothing but their collars, a crucifix and their convictions."
Gusano, SO DAMN TRUE!
Instead, we get this...
"The authorities said they were sorry," Monsignor Dionisio Garcia told Reuters by telephone. "We discussed how to avoid it happening again."
"...we discussed how to avoid it happening again" - NOW, WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?????
The Catholic Church leadership in Cuba is demonstrating that they DO NOT HAVE nor DON'T WANT any MORAL AUTHORITY for the oppressed people to look up to!
The moral train has left the station. The heroes have jumped on. And the Catholic Church leadership is AWOL and not onboard!
