Passings (Updated)

In the news recently:

Luis Aguilar León, Cuban exile and well-known intellectual, who figured prominently in The Boys from Dolores as a former classmate of fidel’s and who numbered Bill Clinton as one of his students at Georgetown, passed away recently at age 82. For the Herald obit here.

Also deceased, Alberto Alonso, noted Cuban dancer and choreographer, at age 90 at his home in Gainsville, FL. Article here.

And in a related development, today comes word in Granma via Penultimos Dias that the less than laudable Philip Agee, CIA turncoat, has died in Havana.

UPDATE (Val): Ace has more, including this little tidbit of info:

Based on the Mitrokhin Archive, a collection of KGB documents taken from the KGB archives by Vasili Mitrokhin, several Soviet defectors have claimed that Agee was an active and willing participant in Soviet disinformation operations. Oleg Kalugin, former head of the KGB’s Counterintelligence Directorate, states that in 1973 Agee approached the KGB's resident in Mexico City and offered what Kalugin called a "treasure trove of information." But the KGB was too suspicious to accept his offer.[10] Kalugin states that:

“ Agee then went to the Cubans, who welcomed him with open arms...The Cubans shared Agee's information with us. But as I sat in my office in Moscow reading reports about the growing revelations coming from Agee, I cursed our officers for turning away such a prize.[10] ”

While Agee was writing Inside the Company: CIA Diary, the KGB kept in contact with him through Edgar Anatolvevich Cheporov, a London correspondent of the Novosti News Agency.[11]

Philip Agee, playin' pitchfork pattycake with fidel.

Ahah! it seems that Philip Agee died of complications following ulcer surgery. Hmmmmm
could it be that Castro medical care is not what it is said to be...

Miami Herald, it seems just erased, my comments on Agree's death pointing out the ulcers are caused by Helicobacter pylori, and that the Castro-Cuba health system should have known that....
