Yes we can...

Insult your intelligence and offend your sensibilities.

Check out the beautiful Cuban flag that hangs in Barack Obama's brand new volunteer campaign office in Houston.

Obamaoffice.jpg

Obama, woo hoo!

Ugh.

Let's see. Castro endorses a Clinton/Obama ticket. Obama has Greg Craig, castro's attorney during the Elian episode, as a senior policy adviser. He was for lifting the embargo before he was against it. And now his campaign workers put up a picture of Che Guevara that's 3 times as big as Obama's own poster in his campaign office. And a self-respecting Cuban would vote for this guy, why?

More here.

H/T: Jose Reyes and Stefania.

P.S. Hillary's supporters won't be outdone.

P.P.S. Little Green Footballs reminds us that Obama doesn't like wearing an American Flag pin.

Yes, but God forbid we should vote for McCain. He just isn't conservative enough. So we'll just have to swallow hard, stay home, and allow Chebama to be elected the next President of the United States of America.

That'll teach those moderates.

Wink, is the correct answer is, "because they are fucking morons"? DING-DING-DING! Yes! You win the prize!

LittleGator,

In case you haven't noticed the Democrats have had about double the turnout than the Republicans in this primary season. Handing old man McCain the nomination does little to inspire anyone to come out. You want me to be excited, give me an exciting candidate not a broken down old liberal in Republican clothing. Got it?

I am upset that I am not getting the due publicity for giving that Cuban flag and others to Obama campaigners. Obama is my peace candidate. Code Pinko will be soon returning to Versailles to distribute Obama campaign literature against the Cuban embargo.

Great post!

As the saying goes ... "increible, pero cierto" ... although not surprised at all!!

Let's not forget that Obama has been very clear about dialogue with Cuba and a change in US-Cuba Policy. Let's also keep in mind that honesty is not entirely based on what's said, but also on what's not expressed ... and Obama has measured his words cautiously to come across as someone who honestly wants to effect change for the better, but with very little substance as to how this will come about ... he's a very astute politician after all!!!

Relativity here is significant in that I seriously doubt that Obama's version of "Change" is the same "Change" or Cambio desperately needed in Cuba!

It's for this reason, and many other, that we need to make sure these guys don't get our votes, directly or indirectly(by abstaining)come November.

They are both hard core liberals or "socialIST" democrats ... again, some may not be thrilled with the candidate on the Republican side, but as I stated before, IMO, we must work hard to ensure that the House and Senate become more conservative.

I wish you well :) Melek

Seriously -- someone should print enlarge this photo, print it out, and bring it up to Obama in a public forum. This will put Obama in the position where he has to either stand by Che (unlikely) or reject him. It would bring much attention to the issue in the mainstream.

Melek,

I'm afraid its too late. We've done the damage by nominating the most undynamic uninspiring candidate we could have.

Posted by: Henry "Conductor" Gomez [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 11, 2008 09:22 PM

Henry,

As with many things in life, one's choice of candidate is to some degree subjective. One guy's "broken down old man -- liberal in Republican clothing" is another guy's war hero, POW, castro-hating, straight talking, consistent and unapologetic moderate Republican.

Given a choice between McCain, Huckabee and Romney, I gotta go with McCain. Huckabee is an evangelical wacko. The kind of guy who wants to control your every action and thought. Keep the government out of the corporate board room, but stick the government's nose in your bedroom. Not the kind of "conservative" we want or need. Romney he REALLY fits your "liberal in Republican's clothing" moniker. He is the Republican Kerry. Stick that finger up, and lets see which way the wind is blowing flip/flop/flip/flop/flip/flop.

Now that McCain is sure to be the nominee it is time to put behind the tantrums ("perretas" en Espanol), and support the guy that your fellow Republicans have selected to go up against the Great Satans of the Democratic party. Either that, or continue the unproductive complaining, and let Democrats get an easy win.

Posted by: LittleGator [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 11, 2008 09:37 PM

Huckabee is not throwing the towel yet.. He sounded really good on Larry ..He has an outside chance, Very slim , but you never know

Huck is dead. He's worse than McCain. Ugh.

this is just my personal opinion

Guys,

Most reliable sources place the number of criminals and mental patients sent over during Marial at no more than 5,000. Still a problem, but far short of the 25,000 you guys are throwing around. Don't perpetuate this exageration.

Henry dijo

Well Henry that was our lucky opprtunity to get out of Cuba in 1980, you must be lucky you did not have to endure the hardships of living in castro land. Really you have NO idea what is to live under communism because you were not part of it. Books , pictures and stories only will give you a glimpse. Not the essence of it

Recuerda que during the Mariel boatlift many of our brothers and sisters did not make it. hundreds of them desaparecieron en el fondo del mar. We will never know

Posted by: Abajofidel [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 11, 2008 10:54 PM

I know what it was like to live in Miami in 1980. We're talking about how castro has abused Democratic presidents.

Posted by: Henry "Conductor" Gomez [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 11, 2008 10:55 PM

little gator the 25k includes the mental, the ones with criminal records etc, putas, ladrones, viladores, maricones etc , testigos de jehova , siempre se ha dicho que fueron vaciadas muchas carcelesy se habla de entre 25k to 30k ..muchos de ellos ni querian venir para aca. fueron obligados a irse. despues los vimos en atlanta y otras carceles americanas quemando y protestando

Posted by: Abajofidel [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 11, 2008 10:57 PM

Nobody can be sure of the exact number but I found this citation:

However, congressional inquiry into the boatlift found that about 10 percent of the Mariel Cubans possessed a criminal or mental illness background that would have made them excludable under the Immigration and Nationality Act. NOTE 2 U.S. authorities detained a significant number of these individuals.

I resent the "Chebama" moniker. I'm not Cuban but I know MUCH about Che Guevara. And the loser that put that flag in an Obama Campaign volunteer office needs to be slapped silly. I know Cubans are majority Republican but I still want to say that this office isn't what the majority of Obama supporters (such as myself) feel. Why can't they put up a picture of Martin Luther King or César Chávez if they want to feel "revolutionary"??

Posted by: T-Steel [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 11, 2008 11:26 PM

You know what will be very interesting? If Obama finds out about the Che on the Cuban flag and tells her to take it down. Now the pressure is on him. She knew very well that the film crew was going to be there so she posed right in front of it, noticed how fast she sat her commie ass on her chair so everyone could see it. Obama has to get rid of that Cuban flag with the Che on it and fire her commie ass also, so he could look good and he should add some inspiring words when he does it, if he does it.

Oh Meada, if that is really you commenting, here's a a slide show with audio I made just for you, in case you didn't see it already, you're loving it huh? Enjoy!

Henry:
You forgot to add Camarioca 1965 to your list of Democrat blunders.
Some Mariel refugees turned to crime because they were envious of what their friends and relatives in the U.S. had achieved during the previous 20 years and the newcomers did not want to wait that long for success or to drive a Cadillac.
I know some Marielitos who were unable to shed their dependency on the government and today live off mental disability checks they get from Social Security instead of working for a living.

Tio, Some Mariel refugees turned to crime because they were envious of what their friends and relatives in the U.S. had achieved during the previous 20 years and the newcomers did not want to wait that long for success or to drive a Cadillac.

Posted by: Abajofidel [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 12, 2008 02:12 AM

Por favor, forget the Marielitos, they are settled successful Cuban Americans, friends family and neighbors, the rest is history. What we need to concentrate on is doing everything we can to work against Obama and Clinton, either will be a disaster for Cuba.

AbajoFidel -- I'm in California and I work for an advertising agency. Where do you work?

Posted by: Tio [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 12, 2008 02:29 AM

I agree with Ziva. McCain like it or not is our only viable candidate and like Ziva says we need to concentrate on working against Obama and Hillary. According to one of the polls that was being cited on TV just now, if the elections were held today, McCain would lose to both Hillary and Obama. That is a truly horrific prospect.

My personal priority has always been electing the candidate that will BEST work against the Castro tyranny, but, then again, I am not a republican purest and feel very comfortable about crossing party lines if the candidate that I am choosing is committed to the anti-castro struggle. The truth is that although as a rule of thumb republicans have been the strongest opponents of castro, this is not always the case. The late Jorge Mas Canosa understood this all too well. Case in point, the Torricelli law--that expanded the embargo on Cuba-- was drafted by one of the most liberal senators at the time, Senator Torricelli of NJ [to whom Mas Canosa was fully committed], and Senator Bob Menendez is a liberal democrat, yet he is one of the strongest and most committed anti-castro opponents around.

To me, whether McCain is a RINO or not is not important. My concern is that he is at the moment the best thing that we have in terms of Cuba.

Like many of you, I was insulted to see the picture of Che Guevara up in the office of an Obama supporter in Texas. Clearly, as a Cuban-American and the son of a Bay of Pigs Veteran, I would not support a presidential candidate whose campaign distributes Che Guevara flags.

Here is what you need to know:

- The flag was taken down immediately.
- That is not an official Obama campaign office. The office belongs to a volunteer that allows other volunteers to use it.
- The Obama campaign ordered the flag to be taken down immediately once it had learned of its presence.
- The flag did not belong to, or was put up by, anyone officially related to the Obama campaign.
- The Obama campaign did not condone the placement of the flag or was aware of its presence in any shape, way or form.

Unfortunately, there is much disinformation out there about Che Guevara and more has to be done to combat the Che myths.

Posted by: The_Cuban_Missile [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 12, 2008 09:52 AM

Misile,

ONCE AGAIN

TELL ME WHO YOU ARE WITH, AND I'LL TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE.

UNTIL WE HAVE A STATEMENT FROM OBAMA HIMSELF THAT HE DOES NOT ADHERE TO OR AGREE WITH THE PRINICIPLES OF CHE GUEVARA, THE ABOVE QUOTE IS ALL WE NEED.

Posted by: Val Prieto [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 12, 2008 10:01 AM

Missile,

You are right there is a lot of disinformation out there about Che Guevara and more has to be done to combat the Che myths.

Perhaps a statement from Obama about Che Guevara in which he shatters those myths explicitly and explains how Guevara was not a warrior for social justice but instead a blood thirsty Stalinist who took a nice picture that has been used to dupe fools around the world.

I would be glad to publish just such a statement at Babalu and I'm sure many other bloggers would join me.

Posted by: Henry "Conductor" Gomez [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 12, 2008 10:04 AM

Henry,
I have to agree with Littlegator on this one. I agree with you that Mccain is not the best choice for the GOP, and all the "suspect" things he has done, liberal bills, global warming, etc, raise a flag, for sure.
Still, do you really want the alternative in power? Can you imagine Chebama or Hillarbitch in power? A non-vote for Mccain will bring you closer to this reality, my friend. Mccain my fall short of being a true republican, but he is far closer to the right than either of the two dems. He gets my admiration for REALLY having somewhat of an idea what our political prisoners are going through having survived imprisonment himself. Perfect he is not, Reagan he is not, but I feel like barfing when I think of the alternative. I agree with you on just about all else. Please don't take offense on my post. I am a long time member of this blog that just hasnt posted in a while and I have the utmost respect for you and all the other main contributors.. I just don't agree with you on this one. Are you really willing to ultimately aid the monstrous dems?
