Top Ten Reasons fidel castro Retired
David Letterman’s Top Ten Reasons Fidel Castro Is Retiring
10. He has accepted the role of Dr. Ramon Vazquez on "General Hospital.”
9. Achieved his goal of getting Cuba’s unemployment rate under 83%.
8. Wants to spend more time interrogating his family.
7. Just got Season One of “Gilmore Girls.”
6. Caught injecting human growth hormone into his wife, Debbie Castro.
5. Too many tacos.
4. He was adopted by Angelina Jolie — honestly, how crazy would that be?
3. Always promised himself he’d quit torturing when it stopped being fun.
2. Jane Fonda called him a "________."
1. 49 years at the same job? Who am I, Letterman?
Just keeping it light this weekend, folks. I have lots more late night fidel jokes from this week on my site, click here.
P.S. I really hope that Dave isn't stupid enough to equate Cubans with tacos but it wouldn't surprise me.

LOL-those are pretty good! One small correction, Claudia-it was most likely his *writing staff* that got the taco bit wrong (or even more likely, felt an authentic Cuban reference like criollos would sail right over the head of the average audience member or viewer), not Dave per se. Remember that Dave, like most late night hosts, doesn't write most of his own material, and usually they trust the staff to do their own fact checking. Still, it would be nice if people were a little more savvy on cultures other than their own, or trusting of their audience not to be a complete bunch of numbnuts. Oh well.

Peshkatari-
True, I do realize that, but Dave is the boss and the words come out of *his* mouth. It's just more proof that the average American lumps all the latinos together. I'd like to believe that he is a little more savvy than the average American but, well, maybe not!

Letterman is a comedian and talk show host, not a political analyst. He spends all his energies on being a comedian and talk show host, not on reading up on politics. So, no he probably is NOT a little more savvy than the average American re politics.
