He came, he saw... (Part 2)

and he expressed his disapproval of the oppression of the Cuban people and the barriers being placed against their quest for dignity and independence.

The problem is he was not talking about the dictatorial regime that has for the past half-century beaten, jailed, and murdered hundreds of thousands of Cubans. The good Cardinal instead was referring to the US and its embargo against Cuba's oligarchical dictatorship. As a matter of fact, I have not heard Cardinal Bertone say much, if anything, about the lack of freedom in Cuba.

Thank you so much for your concern for the Cuban people, Cardinal Bertone, but really, you shouldn't have.

God knows you shouldn't have.

He's no John Paul. What a wasted opportunity.

The church [or as some would call it, the Whore of Babylon] continues to whore itself to Castro.

As I posted earlier, it's not enough that during the struggle for independence from Spain and in plain sight of the atrocities committed by the crown, i.e. General Weiler's concentration camps that killed tens of thousands of Cubans, the church was unshaken in its support of Spain. Then in the 1960's, the papal nuncio to Havana, Monsieur Sacchi [in order to show solidarity with the Cuban people] used to cut sugar cane. Using the same line of reasoning, a papal nuncio to the USA in the 1800's would have gone to the cotton plantations and picked cotton with the black slaves in order to show solidarity with the antebellum South.

The coup de grace came in the 1970s, when two brothers seeking asylum in the Vatican embassy in Havana were heartlessly and coldly kicked out the embassy into the awaiting hands of Castro's goons and unceremoniously dispensed with: EXECUTED.

Now, Cardinal Bertone not only gives Raul's regime a patina of legitimacy [like Pope Paul did], but mentions that the embargo should be lifted and gives Castro, Inc..the ammunition that they always strife for.

The Church hierarchy which is totally politicized, removed from the sentiments of the masses and totally byzantine in its archaic ways is as far from Christ as the EAST IS FROM THE WEST.

Well said Ray!!!
It is also ironic that the church that denies freedom for the Cuban people is the one responsible for granting fidel and raul their freedom when they were locked up. If not for that we would be blogging about other things from Cuba today. Thats something to chew on for a day or two.

Wyler's policies killed between 200,000 to 400,000 Cubans not "tens of thousands"

Since when did the US create any barriers to dignity for Cubans? Seems to me we have given a great number of Cubans an opportunity to have their dignity, as opposed to having it crushed by the castro regime.

Most repugnant is the way these religious goons love to deny the freedoms to other people that they like to enjoy themselves. They will attack a government when it steps on the church's toe, but will stay silent and slip in bed with it when it suffers no persecution from the same govt.

It is because the Catholic Church plays up to Cuba that they see no persecution. Many other churches are currently very persecuted by Cuba. Its not a coincidence that they do not play the same game as the Catholic Church.

Glad to find people that believe as I do.
And I repear the whore of Babylon is the Vatican, The Church are the Individuals who truly believe in Christ Jesus.
Those who follow blindly are the usefull fools.

I defended Pius XII earlier, but I can't defend this. The moral compass of the Church has been spinning like a weather vane in a tornado for years now, and its sick flirtation with Marxism goes back even farther.

It ties in with the merry-go-round o' pedophiles the Church put in place, transferring them to another unsuspecting parish when heat got turned up where they were -- much the same way LAUSD plays musical chairs with incompetent principals here in LA. From what I understand, this was in part due to a shortage of priests, but if so, it's disturbing that the Vatican has no faith in God's ability to provide new priests if they kicked these deviants out.

If the Vatican can't recognize the need for public shaming and expulsion of kid-humping priests, how could they NOT be blind to the consequences of kissing up to Raul?

I identify as Catholic, but wonder if I can any longer do so. The moral bankruptcy of the Church has too long been evident. The Sermon on the Mount was and is radical because it exalts the paradox that the powerless, the meek, the falsely imprisoned are God's blessed ones. It is a command that we not worship power, but exalt those who suffer for justice's sake at the hands of tyrants. Yet this "Prince of the Church" goes to Havana and does the precise opposite. He turns the Gospel on its head and pays homage to Raul Castro, the killer of Pedro Luis Boitel and so many thousands of others. This Bertone is nothing but a cynical careerist clad in red velvet and lace.

One more black mark for the government of Spain…

It seems that Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone was assessed by Spain as to how to proceed during his visit to Cuba.
