Two pews in the front of the cathedral were reserved reserved for the Cuban Community. The priest explained to the Cubans were there in solidarity with the political prisoners in Cuba, adding that the Cubans on the island were subject to an oppressive regime. The congregation of some 400 worshipers responded to the presence of the Cuban-Americans with applause. Present at the mass was the the former political prisoner René Hernández and his wife María Teresa, both from Camaguey.

Proud to see the cuban-american community outside of Miami and New York doing something on this level. Proud to live in Raleigh.
