Now Wait a Minute -- Obama's Flip Flop and San Fran Elite Dems

obama.jpg

If you're a liberal, you must really be screwing up if the Editorial in the liberal Washington Post is ripping you a new butthole such as the Post did today in calling Obama on his pledge to agree to public financing of his campaign. Well, since he's making all the money from the net and what not, what's principle or a promise? It's non existent when you're a politician; especially a Democrat who's crusading against the culture of corruption and you can't do any better than paint the GOP Candidate as Bush III.

Here's a snippet from the Post's editorial:

When it was in Mr. Obama's interest to present himself as the ethical savior of an imperiled campaign finance system, he was happy to do so, especially since it didn't seem especially likely at the time that he'd be the nominee. But the real test of a candidate is whether he will stick by an announced principle even when that's against his own interest. Now Mr. Obama could become the first nominee since Watergate to run a campaign fueled entirely by private money. * * *

We praised Mr. Obama last year when he asked the Federal Election Commission to let him raise private money for the general election but later give the money back and decide to participate in the public financing system if he were able to persuade the Republican nominee to do the same. In that circumstance, Mr. Obama's spokesman vowed, he would "aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election." Well, the Republican nominee turns out to be John McCain, who agreed way back when to Mr. Obama's challenge. Where's Mr. Obama's aggressive pursuit now?

UPDATE: Sorry, but I can't get enough of this guy. Here's a quote of the day on the Elite mindset from Obama and his ilk from James Tarranto:

Unlike Ayn Rand, Feingold and Obama see selfishness as a virtue only for bitter-off cultural conservatives. The well-heeled San Francisco Democrats Obama addressed on Friday stand to pay much higher taxes if he is elected. Many of them no doubt back Obama because they like his liberal positions on subjects like guns, abortion and same-sex marriage. If you think Obama criticized their priorities, we've got some change you can believe in. In Barack Obama's America, rich people who vote on cultural issues rather than economic self-interest are principled and self-sacrificing. People of more modest means who do so are credulous and bitter.

When Feingold and Obama refer dismissively to cultural and moral issues, it is not because they do not take those issues seriously. It is because they would rather not take seriously the arguments on the other side. It is much less intellectually demanding, as well as flattering to oneself and those San Francisco Democrats, to caricature opposing positions as the products of poverty, ignorance and bitterness.

"We praised Mr. Obama last year when he asked the Federal Election Commission to let him raise private money for the *GENERAL ELECTION* but later give the money back and decide to participate in the public financing system if he were able to persuade the Republican nominee to do the same."

It seems to me that the democratic primaries (end date: June 3) are overshadowing any beginnings of the general election, so it's not terribly surprising that Obama has not pursued his challenge with McCain yet, no?

Also, Obama has disclosed more of his finance records than McCain:

He's still an empty suit, but give him a whistle in that picture and he could be a dandy crossing guard.

There's still time for him to make that decision. He has to win the nomination first.
