Things that piss me off

You know, out here in LA, it is not easy to organize an event that presents the truth about Cuba, especially if your target audience is non-Cuban. I mean as long as we’re just preaching to the choir so to speak, there’s no danger that we might change the minds of some who believe the lie that revolutionary Cuba is heaven on earth

You’d think that a Human Rights organization in the business of defending those rights would by its nature want to help inform everyone about the total lack of freedom in Cuba. However, based on a case I know of, apparently not. An Amnesty International Artists for Amnesty representative (name withheld), who has been supportive in the past, flat out said after numerous emails, that “Cuba is not a priority campaign for us right now.”

Fifty years of executions, oppression, and the total enslavement of a nation is not enough to make Artists for Amnesty’s priority list.

Can’t have those intransigent Cubans tarnishing the Hollywood myth now can we? I mean there is a lot of money in Hollywood, and even a non-profit Human Rights Organization has to have their priorities. $$$

Just saying.

Could it just be that there's presently too ripe an opportunity with China to not go full bore after it?

Ziva,

When have they ever bothered? The only time Amnesty International mentions Cuba is on their yearly report that no one mentions other than us. As far as I’m concerned they are as useless as the United Nations, the OAS, and the Catholic Church.

Let them have it!

Make sure to check under “upcoming events” for Amnesty International USA. I dare you to find any mention whatsoever on Cuba. Amnesty International is “more” concerned about the inmates at Guantanamo, Mexican immigration and education, and holding mock prisons than what human rights violations in Cuba.

I'm not a big fan of Amnesty, but I did find this on the site:

http://www.amnestyusa.org/other-countries/cuba/page.do?id=1011139&n1=3&n2=30&n3=889

But Cuba's definitely nowhere near the top or even middle of their priorities.
