UPDATE: Guess who is on Obama's short list for Attorney General? Not John Edwards, but a familiar name to you folks: Eric Holder. Does Janet Reno's Deputy during the Elian case sound familiar? Read it here.

Hi all, sorry for the off-topic. I came to this country as an adult, only eight years ago and I would like to learn more about US History. I am looking for a book not too dense, that would be an entertaining reading and that would be balanced, without the liberal bias that is found in all of our colleges.
My email is RamonNG[remove] at yahoo dot[remove] com if you don't want to respond in this comment thread, however I realize that responding directly here will be nice so I can see different opinions about each book.
Any suggestion would be appreciated!
Ramon

Thanks a lot Mike. I'll take a look at the ones you recommend. One thing that I didn't mention before is that I am looking for a book that covers the main successes in US History without going deep on any particular period or person, i.e. something that gives me an overall background in the founding of nation, the revolutionary war, the civil war, etc, up to recent events.
