They still don't get it
Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., accused the Republicans of pushing oil development by ''scaring up the ghosts of communism and xenophobia'' and ``perpetuating a myth that China is drilling off the coast of Florida.''
A myth? A myth based on Cuba's own claims that it's signed multiple partnership deals with several countries including China to explore and drill in the Florida straits. There are several news articles that amplify such announcements made by castro, inc. over recent years.
Several Republican leaders misspoke because what actually happens in Cuba (vs. what the castro regime says happens) is opaque due to the fact that it's a totalitarian dictatorship. The Dems are splitting hairs.
''There is no actual drilling yet. ... There is exploration,'' said Johanna Mendelson-Forman, a senior fellow on energy and Latin America at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
The point is that Cuba can and will drill in the straits of Florida, while we sit on our hands and watch the price of gasoline rise. That they haven't done it yet could be the result of a million things we don't know about. Their intention is clear though.

Since when is disdain of communism equal to xenophobia? Ed Markey is an idiot.

The mere fact that CUBA is prepared or is preparing to drill in the Florida Straits, and the US is NOT speaks volumes as to the seriousness of our Congress Critters about energy policy. General rule is, if you want to make something more affordable -
find, grow or make more of the stuff - that is all.
