Honored and Humbled
I've come across a lot of wackos and nutjobs through my blogging over the last couple of years but I've also met some wonderful people. In November of last a year a new blog was born. It was La Primera Generacion written by a 21-year old M.I.T. student named Monica. In January Monica became the youngest (and certainly the brightest) contributor to Babalu.
Last week Monica graduated from M.I.T. and speculated that she's the only person to ever get a degree from that institution while wearing a Cambio bracelet. I'm sure she's right. I was surprised when Monica sent me an email asking for my mailing address so she could send me an invitation to a graduation party her mother was throwing for her. I was honored and humbled to be invited to such an event.
Well that party was today, and Ana and I got to meet Monica and her parents Mari and Sergio for the first time. All I can say is that they are credit to Cubans everywhere. Just in the short couple of hours we were with Monica and her family we could tell what special and warm people they are. Her parents thanked me and Babalu for helping nurture Monica's Cubania. Several members of Monica's family have become regular readers. That puts the pressure on me. Knowing such people are reading my words will make me think twice about posting an expletive next time some newspaper publishes an idiotic column or letter about Cuba or Cuban-Americans.
Thank you Monica for thinking of me, and thank you Sergio and Mari for raising such a exemplary Cubanita.

Henry, don't worry about the expletive-filled rants. I'll take those off your hands... :-)
