The Perfect Cuba Libre
If you're looking for something to put a smile on your face, go read Daniel's intoxicationg post on "The Perfect Cuba Libre", and make sure to also read the comments, perfect poetry for a perfect beverage.
A sample:
The glass sweats
Nervous as a first date,
The Cubes sing with each spin,
Like the turns of the Salsa dancers,
Come lovers,
Tickling my nose,
as it presses my lips for
that all too familiar kiss.

My Doctor won't allow any rum, but I've got a few bars and eateries near my home where they always ask me if I want a Cuba Libre when the weather is warm. They know it pleases this old man to think he's getting a real drink, even though all I get is an icy Coke with lime. It brings back memories.

Ziva,
In one of my favorites shows, The Big Bang Theory ... they had the funniest exchange between Sheldon and Penny about a "Cuba Libre" ... just a little humor to end our day ... enjoy!

Since the 1960s Cubans in exile refer to the Cuba Libre as "Un Mentirita."

Firefly, and for good reason! However Daniel has the right attitude, if not the name.

Ziva and Firefly
We cannot allow them to take things away from us. Cuba Libre is one of the most famous drinks, and comes from a glorious historical tradition, from Cuba's independence nothing less. Or why do you think the regime has been promoting mojitos to tourists? Calling it a "mentirita" might sound cute in Miami watering holes but in my opinion we are giving the point to fidel when we say that.
In Venezuela actually the term Cuba Libre has a certain subversive flavor these days, more than beofre as the drink has always been associated here with the pre Castro era. It is the drink I would ask if I were to attend a chavista party (God forbid that might ever happen but one can stray into one by mistake!). Imagine all the puns one could make during the ordeal...
Though chavistas drink old 18 year scotch and Cuba Libre is on the way out in that crowd....
Note: it is Venezuela who added the Angostura to the drink, thus making it Venezuelan as much as Cuban.
