Money for nothing, chicks for free - Part deux
Great post up at Yoani's today:
As I read, I was reminded of a documentary on Cuban musicians in New Jersey I saw a while back. One of the musicians interviewed, clad in gold jewelry ala Mr. T, living in a tiny, run-down apartment with a tiny, run-down kitchen, a tiny, run-down bathroom and a tiny, run-down bedroom, proudly displayed his worldly possessions: more gold jewelry and numerous expensive gold watches, ropa de marca, and expensive shoes and clothing accessories. And as he held up the items for the camera stated that it wasnt his fault that he had all of these luxuries.
His having all that expensive jewelry and clothing, top of the line tv's and stereos, while living in was basically amounted to a hovel wasnt of his own doing. It was capitalism, he said, that compelled him to buy all those things he didnt need, while living in need.
