Columnist: McCain needs Palin
I was listening to XM radio at lunchtime and the program was "Zogby's America." The guest was conservative columnist Jack Kelly who stated that the Veep selection for Obama doesn't matter much, his campaign is going to float or sink on his merits but that McCain needs to make a Veep selection that can generate excitement and buzz for his campaign. By his measure the only one that can do that is Sarah Palin, the Republican governor of Alaska.

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska
Kelly believes that the only issue voters are going to care about in November is gas prices and that McCain can distance himself from Obama by adopting the popular position that we need to drill for oil here in America.
Governor Palin is a proponent of drilling the Antarctic National Wildlife Reserve in Alaska and McCain is currently against it. Kelly concludes that McCain needs to go up there with Palin and announce that he's changing his position. Of course that would make him a flip-flopper, which is what's so aggravating about the guy. He took a ridiculous position to begin with (like Obama on the withdrawal of troops from Iraq) and now will have to backtrack. At least McCain would be backtracking to the conservative GOP base.
Furthermore Kelly explains that Palin would be a candidate of national significance because of her personal story. She was apparently the point guard of a state championship basketball team in high school, she is conservative and hunts and fishes, etc.
I don't know much about here but I like what I've heard so far.
Someone tell Charlie Crist to call the wedding off.

I agree: the only issue that's really going to matter come November is the price of gas in Toledo(or something to that effect).
What kills me, however, is how McCain (and the useless Republicans in Congress) isn't smiply hammering this point home, relentlessly, day-in, day-out, etc., constantly reminding the world that Dems are, at the very least, a huge part of the problem.
And, yeah, someone push Crist off a cliff with his new bride of convenience--he isn't going to help and, man, Ms. Pallin is ever-so-easy on the eyes (it doesn't hurt that she's more conservative than 90% of Republican pols, either).

My first choice would be MITT ROMNEY - that said, I would have NO Problem whatsoever with "Mooseburger" Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. -S-

Dr. Shalit, if Romney were capable of infusing excitement wouldn't he be running for president instead of veep?

McCain can win Florida without Crist. So what would he even bring to the table? I agree. Put the Alaskan on the ticket.

I agree, but at American Spectator, she's not even in the top 15.
