A question to start off the week

Who is ultimately responsible for the forced separation of Cuban families; the US government's foreign policy or the dictatorial regime in Cuba?

The dictatorial regime that misgoverns Cuba of course. Classic case in point, when the late Celia Cruz's mother died, Celia was not allowed--by the regime-- to go back to Cuba to attend her mother's funeral. And how about Dr. Molina the famous Cuban brain surgeon? This is an example in which the U.S.A. is not involved. In this case, Dr. Molina's grandchildren live in Argentina and she wants to go there to visit them. Argentina has relations with Cuba, so no one can bring in American foreign policy here. I believe that the Argentine government has gone as far as to ask the tyranny to allow Dr. Molina to visit Argentina, and it has refused.

The question is a no-brainer: the Cuban regime, of course. I was just eleven years old when the exodus began in mid-1959, a few months after Castro's take-over. In those early days anyone who wanted to could leave and even take their money with them. The Castro people just said "good riddance" to those leaving. After the Cstroites saw how many of us were leaving and that this policy was resulting in a major brain-drain, they began to clamp down and put more and more regulations in place until we have what we have today. The regime realized if they let everyone who wished to leave do so freely, they would soon run out of slaves. It's that simple. Today, it costs around $5,000 to obtain all the necessary permits, documents, etc., so the regime uses this as revenue as well as a sword of Damocles to keep everyone on the island as a hostage in order to manipulate them and their relatives.

Well, "Jimmy Carter" is ususally the right answer to questions like this, but I suppose, in this case, I'd have to say the dictatorial regime in Cuba.

Although, I hear that things are getting better in Cuba these days. According to a VOA article I saw the other day, Raul Castro has eased restrictions, and Cubans can now stay in hotels and even buy pressure cookers. Wow! Way to let freedom ring, Raul!

The US didn't go to my father's house and kicked them out of the house at gun point.
So I have to guess it was Fidelita Aladin and the 40 thieves, or Robberhood.
