Cuba's castro, a Robin Hood?
By now you all know that since the early days of fidel castro's insurgency in Cuba he has been depicted as a Robin Hood, who would steal from the rich and give to the poor. This extremely seductive and simplistic metaphor fails to capture the obvious. But Yoani Sanchez does in one of her shortest postings ever:
Sherwood Forest
Robin Hood has already distributed the stolen wealth. In the beginning the poor were happy and howled with glee in every corner of the forest. A short while later they understood that the great thief of Sherwood only knew how to steal wealth, not create it.

Socialism still seduces simpletons. Behold Obama's popularity. Cuba is a canary in the coal mine they ignore at everyone's peril.

Yes, a lot of people, far too many, were only too happy to benefit, or to be promised benefit, from the blatant theft of other people's legitimate property. My grandfather, who started poor and with nothing, not even a high school education, rose through serious, hard work to own several small businesses and real estate. It was all taken away from him, even though he had exploited no one and helped quite a few. Those who looked on approvingly, let alone shared in the spoils, have my undying contempt. I don't care if they later realized the "robberlution" was not as adverstised. They still reek for acting like scum.

I can't remember the fellow's name, but one of the wealthier farm owners down in Venezuela, when confronted with a gang of about a dozen youths armed with various implements - who had arrived to steal several patches of his land - responded quite effectively . . . he shot two of them with a high-caliber hunting rifle.
