Sunday Night Safran

As I mentioned earlier, I was interviewed by an Australian radio host name John Safran as a counterpoint to a woman representing something called the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society.

I was pleased to find the following comments at Safran's Guest Book regarding the woman's interview:

kalishnakov 13/07/2008 9:55 PM so now ive heard the pinko crazy go on about how great cuba is i was just about to pack up my suitcase and move there, until I heard that their public transport system sux.

Wow, that woman from the australia-cuba friendship society sure knows how to kill a radio program ! I had to turn off because she was so full of it - I've never believed the US spin but she could say nothing bad about the place. The reality is that the soil is very depleted (through sugar cane farming sans fertiliser) so the quality of food is poor; the standard of living is also very poor and the Government is essentially a dictatorship - any dissent is harshly repressed. Also those in power have a significantly higher standard of living than nearly everyone else. Cuba has no real natural resources (Good Rum and Cigars not withstanding) and her infrastructure is crumbling so the future does not look very positive. If she thinks it so great she should move there; I'm sure some would line up to trade places with her.

I just finished listening to the post cast with the woman from the cuban australian love association or whatever the organisation she was from. She maybe the most biased person I have ever heard according to her everyone who doesn't think cuba is great utopia is a terrorist and they have this magical political system where they have free and fair election in which the same guy ends up president everytime, I think they have the same system in zimbabwe.I think we may have found a guest that out smugged you this time john.

Hi John,

I've been a long time listener and the Cuba interview was one of your best - you were across the issue (I'm glad you brought up the plight of journalists and dissidents - umm, Amnesty International is another organisation that she might want to check out as a reference, unless she thinks they're a CIA front as well) You still gave her alot of room to discuss and were just a nice as you are to the right wingers you have on your show. Well done.

Speaking of the Cuba myth, You've really got to get some authority on to discuss politician, playwright and dissident Vaclav Havel (Havel has hightlighted the plight of journalists in Cuba in the past).

He's the left winger who the right loves (or vice versa). Complicated guy and he's Czech so there'd have to be a Gollum tie in somewhere!

Hi John & Bob,
Great show, the Cuba woman was great haven't laughed so hard in a while, but maybe I'm a CIA front man or a terrorist.

Dear John and Father Bob. I was listening to the podcast of last weeks show as I was walking the dog. I wanted to walk out in front of a car and end it all. I was getting so infuriated with Joan.

If Cuba is that frigging good GO LIVE THERE JOAN.

Joan was making things up as she went along. Where did the figure $100m that the US government is supposedly giving to Reporters without Borders come from? The frigging Cuban Governments website? State your frigging source Joan.
John maybe you should invite Joan back if you ever do a feature show on RAVING BLOODY LOONS!!!

Comments

In the second line, the article says "Austria-Cuba" - should that be Australia-Cuba instead? Good article.
