Raul's Speech: More of the Same
Why the media were so excited about Raul's July 26th speech is a bit perplexing. Fox News led into a report about the festivities with the teaser headline "Cuba Libre?" I figured I missed something as Steve Harrigan presented an optimistic report from Santiago, anticipating the speech. I needn't have worried, I didn't.
Here's an early morning heads up. I'm sure more will be written, but the lowdown on the speech reads more or less like the usual script. This includes more privation and want for Cubans, a bit of saber rattling whatever the election results in the US, and a self-congratulatory back pat on how far they parlayed the disastrous attack on the Moncada barracks.
Here's a report. We'll have to wait for the text to see if there are any milk moments.
