In the mail....
I just received my review copy of "The Bay of Pigs" by Howard Jones, Oxford University Press.
Obviously, I've yet to read it, but from perusing the "Acknowledgments" alone, one would think that no Cubans had been involved in the research for this book, much less veterans of the Bay of Pigs.

Its interesting....I was going to tell you yesterday that my dad was in the Bay of Pigs Invasion and a prisioner for almost 2 years. He was a patriot and died hoping that one day Cuba would be free. His name was Jaime Varela Canosa. I will try to read the book to compare the information with what I have heard in the past.. .....

Mercy,
My father in law was also part of the invasion and also served two years in prison. Perhaps they might have known each other.
And thank you for reading and registering to comment.

Looking forward to reading the book. Although no words on paper can capture the heroic, courageous and valient bravery of these Cuban patriotas.... I am always looking for the one account of April, 1961 that will revive in my mind the sights, sounds and smells of April 17, 18, 19 and 20th of 1961.
Saludos to your father in Law Val. Let him know that the men of La Brigada 2506 are forever part of the history of the sruggle for the Freedom and Liberation of the people and the Nation of Cuba.
For him and all the bravos of the Brigade who are still with us ....Mis saludos y sobre todo MI RESPETO.

Don't bother, Dr. Jones, is just another one of those JFK assasination theorists. href who believed Kennedy was really going to pull the advisers out of Vietnam; he gives no credit to the brave members of the Brigade, Right out of the Oliver Stone school of scholarship.

Did the book omit the 300,000 round up, the Escambray Rebellion, the severe losses suffered by the Castro militia and police?

if you want to read a good book on the bay of pigs, read this book by Victor Triay:
it is an oral history. the author actually interviewed many of the veterans of the invasion and the book is written from their perspective.

Tony V-Dittos to your comment, but please don't overlook Grayston Lynch's, "Decision for Disaster-Betrayal at the Bay of Pigs". BTW-Mr. Lynch was among the first to land at Playa Giron with thte Brigade frogmen.
