Gen. Patton was Right
Disgusted by the raping, robbing and pillaging, a very wise (and obviously chastened) observer in 1945 commented:: "We have destroyed what could have been a great people, and replaced them with Mongol savages."
The comment was in response to the trail of wanton destruction and sadistic horror left in the Red Army's wake as it "liberated" Eastern Europe. This liberation involved the sacking-- by the heirs of Genghis Khan, Tamerlane and Ivan the Terrible-- of half the historic capitols of Western Civilization The commenter was brilliant military tactician and strategist of the time. He was also a very astute historian. The above quote is from the diaries of Gen. George S. Patton.
Well, as they say, history repeats itself. Georgians are learning this with a vengeance.

Oh right: because every situation is Munich in 1938 or Europe in 1945. Patton was so highly regarded that Truman and Eisenhower thought he'd start a third world war when the second had barely been won. Get a grip.
Not every situation is a crisis requiring swift military action, not every wait-and-see moment is "appeasement." It's a strange state of affairs when President Bush has been more prudent this week than John "the first probably serious crisis internationally since the end of the Cold War" McCain. This man running for president now implies that the possibility that Saddam might possess WMD was NOT not the first serious international crisis since the end of the Cold War? Is this man running for president now implying that the attacks on the Twin Towers and Pentagon were NOT the first serious international crisis since the end of the Cold War? Is this man running for president now implying that Kosovo, Srebenica, and Bosnia were not the first serious international crises since the end of the first Cold War? How can you take a man like this seriously -- a man who is at his most charismatic when he gets to show his teeth? This man without judgment, who can't choose his words carefully, is who you're supporting for president? Really?
Oy vey. Just do what I do, bro. Don't vote in the presidential election. Vote instead for your local representative -- unless, of course, he or she submits to John McCain's bloodlust.

For much needed sanity, conservative John Derbyshire reminds the Kagan brothers and Charles Krauthammer that they can't be serious. And here's more good context.
