DNC Superdelegate Raul Martinez
If any of those protesters in Denver gets out of hand, Martinez will be able to calm everything down. Just watch his methods...

Henry:
I am disappointed that you would post this video about Raul Martinez. I saw this because love him or hate him, Raul Martinez helped out thousands of Cubans.
You know more than anyone else where I stand on the Cuba issues. But I have to state the truth.
I lived in Hialeah for several years and saw the transformation that Raul Martinez helped foster. We at the Versailles Blog fully understand your critique of Raul Martinez, but lets be fair. Lets talk about how Ana Navarro kisses Charles Rangel behind and raises money for him. In turn the Money that she raises for Rangel get used to bash Cuban-American. The funniest thing of all is that Ninoska Perez-Castellon allowed several directors from the "Cuba Liberty Council" to fundraise and meet with Rangel because he threatened to add a new tax on Cigar sales.
We at the Versailles Blog call it how it is. Yes, Raul Martinez has received money from people who own travel agencies to Cuba, but these so called Anti-Castro zealots seem to get weak at the knees when they bottom line is at stake.
Let's call it what it is, parties shouldnt matter when it comes to Cuba. There are very few people who are respected as Lincoln and Raul. They are both heroes in my eyes.

Elias,
Nobody doubts Raul Martinez' ability to have the potholes fixed and the garbage picked up in the city of Hialeah, but let's be honest here for a second, he's no statesman.
The temperament that one needs to be an effective legislator is very different than being a strong-arm mayor. This video is a glaring reminder of the kind of political animal that Raul is. And the type of animal period.
Look who is backing Raul's candidacy. Who benefits if the Diaz-Balarts are defeated?

Tabacalero,
My in-laws lived in Hialeah from 1961-1996. They never, never, ever voted for raul martinez. Ever! They new him well and saw him for the opportunist that he was. As to "helping Cuban-Americans" please name just a few.
All he did was his job! Period!

Henry please let me also add that as you well said Raul Martinez is not a stateman, and not an honest politician, period.
Firefly you said,

Tabacalero,
Over the years I have meet people that new Raul Martinez and his family from way back in Cuba and never heard much positive about him. Plus I heard from others (some with somewhat close ties to him) here with same results.
For what I have seen and heard over the years in Hialeah my impression is that he's not only corrupted and full of shit but that he used his office for his personal enrichment and gotten away with it with total impunity for most of his political career.
Honestly you're not convincing most of us about Raul Martinez "Virtues" as most of us here in Babalu are able to see throught the clouds of his bull shit political career that unfortunately you're unable or unwilling to see.
Let me just tell you that over the years I have heard and seem in so many ways about the ways that he has run the city of Hialeah that leaves me no doubt that he's as crooked of a politician as they come.
What truly amazes me about Raul Martinez (and actually that is the only thing that I give him creadit for) is his enourmous ability to get away with so much corruption for such a long time in the city of Hialeah and still have a strong support base from many of the cities residents.
Without a doubt, he does have a strong support in Hialeah, I don't deny it for a minute as unfortunately there are many people in that city with your same mentality.
Then we Cuban-Americans get insulted when we are sometimes rightly called in some American circles as having a "Banana Republic" mentality.
The way I see it, is that having a blind support for local crooked politicians like Raul Martinez gives our critics plenty of ammnunition to attack us.
And, if Raul Martinez was a Republican Party member, God forbid, as we would have never heard the end of it.
