Mainstream Media: Thy Name is Hubris
Slublog has written the absolute best smackdown on the MSM I have ever read, at Ace's.
Here's a peek:
You want to know why conservatives roared last night when the media was bashed and why many of us have spent the week in a simmering rage? It's because you're hypocrites. You claim to be objective, yet have spent the past few days absolutely smearing a woman and her family because she had the audacity to be a conservative Republican. You have expended more time and effort discussing her daughter's sex life than you've spent looking into the business and political associates of the Democrat candidate for president of the United States. When you did explore Palin's actual record, you have often done so with little regard for the truth. You and your colleagues have relinquished your right to be taken seriously as honest brokers of information.

And among all of Roger Simon's two-bit sarcasm, which he evidently thinks is brilliant, not one word of reproach for, or even acknowledgement of, all the lies, distortions and half-truths perpetrated, condoned and eagerly spread by the MSM over the past several days regarding the private life of the Palins. Not one word of remorse or concern over the vicious attack on an innocent girl in a very tough spot, all done for political sport. And yes, he knows PERFECTLY well that, if the exact same situation had involved a Dem VP choice, this sort of gang rape would NEVER have happened. Good little MSM minion, Roger. Good dog.
Oh yeah, I tust and respect the media. Sure thing. I trust it to be what I know it to be from long experience. Only sometimes it surprises me. Sometimes, it's even worse.

Basically, to people like Simon, who are the MSM norm, this whole Sarah and Bristol Palin cluster fuck is just one big joke. Nothing serious. Nothing to fret about. Business as usual. Ha ha ha, fair game, yada yada. But if, say, Hillary Clinton had been on the Dem ticket, and anybody dug up any dirt (even real dirt) on Chelsea, well, OF COURSE that would have been handled with kid gloves, if at all. And heaven help anybody who tried to make much out of it. The moral outrage card would have been in constant play, big time. It's bad enough that people like Simon are two-faced assholes, but they're not just hypocritical, they're downright SMUG about it. Welcome to would-be journalism.
