Cuba can't pay its debts?

Really? Where have we heard that before?

Russia, latest in the long line of suckers. Ironically the Soviet Union was the first in that line. Goes to show you, the more things change...

So if Russia changes it's government back to communism (with the way they're handling international affairs it could be a possibility), will Cuba once again renege on his debts like they did when the Soviet Union dissolved??

I think this has, well, everything to do with the impending(?) death of fidel. Holders of Cuban assets are often holders of Cuban debt. And the fear of their debts being ruled odious makes these creditors singly disinclined to release a single peso, in anticipation of seizing fidel's assets upon his death (or the announcement thereof).

I can see a lot of national banks tying up the release of Cuban assets in as much red tape as it takes to keep the assets in-country.

All the money and material assets in Russia couldn't compensate for the incalculable harm, the countless deaths, the unspeakable misery and horrendous suffering caused by Soviet Russia all over the world. We Cubans surely know whereof we speak on that score. But it's a moot point: Russia and its people, let alone its government, haven't got the slightest intention to make any restitution or make it up to anybody. It's like, "That's history now, dude, so suck it up and get over it, because we're NOT going there."

Tragically, disgracefully, to its degradation and debasement, the world has all too willingly given the Russians a pass. To put the nail in the coffin, so to speak, it readily accepted a former KGB officer as Russia's leader. That obviously never happened with the Nazis or fascists, and it wouldn't happen with any RIGHT-wing totalitarian regime. Just look at the Pinochet case. But somehow, magically, it's OK to let the Russians off the hook with barely a whisper of complaint, never mind outrage. I have no respect for anybody who's OK with that, and I have no respect for Russia. The very idea that it would even dream of the Cuban people repaying one stinking cent is a monumentally grotesque obscenity.
