South Africa honors a hated dictator

You’d think that South Africa would have learned a thing or two about repression and tyranny during their long struggle for democracy and an end to apartheid. Instead, they honor one of world’s worst dictators, responsible for a half century of death, destruction, and human misery by giving him a humanitarian award. They cite his “contributions to humankind beyond boundaries,” and note that he “ruled unopposed for a half century.”

I can’t think of an appropriate adjective fit for a family blog that describes this dreadful, immoral choice. It’s an outrage.

Considering that several years ago the Vatican did the same, nothing surprises me anymore. These people have no decency or shame.

This should be a lesson to all, especially Cubans: If you trash your own house and let it go down the toilet, not only will others not help you fix it, but they'll take whatever benefit they can from your misfortune. We've seen that happen ad infinitum over the past 50 years, and we're not through seeing it. There's not much point getting angry at these contemptible "Ubuntu" assholes, though, not really. Maybe they truly are stupid enough to believe Castro's lies, or, more likely, they feel Castro helped them somehow, and they don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Also, there's the ever-present double standard, and the always-popular anti-American card. So don't get too angry over these two-bit jackasses; they're too bush-league to be worth the energy. Just remember that success is the best revenge. A free and democratic Cuba, fully re-inserted into the modern world as it once was, would leave these clowns so far behind so fast it'd make their heads spin.
