Reaction To "Obsession"

As predicted in my post a couple of days ago, some people have taken objection to the distribution of the "Obsession" DVD included in this past Sunday's edition of many U.S. newspapers.

The Miami Herald, one of the papars to include the DVD, went as far as to write an article on reaction from area Muslims. Here's an excerpt:

Syed Rahman, a Muslim pharmaceutical consultant from Weston, said he was shocked to see the film bundled with his Sunday Miami Herald. ''I could not believe my eyes,'' he said. Nidal Hussain, a Kendall computer consultant, was also taken aback. ''I watched it with my wife . . . it is vulgar material,'' he said. ``I'm sure good, wholesome Americans are going to see it and be able to decipher the truth."

At least one newspaper, The News & Record of Greensboro, N.C., decided not to distribute the DVD. The publisher ''said it was divisive and plays on people's fears and served no educational purpose,'' editor John Robinson wrote in his blog.

Speaking of The News & Record, some are lauding the editors' decision as "brave".

Actually, the vast majority of newspapers deciding to include the DVD as part of an advertising insert shows more bravery than the gutless wonders out there who are more concerned about the sensibilities of the guilty than to expose reality.

And here's the reaction of a confused blogger who writes a letter to the editor expressing disapproval for including the DVD.

It's sad that something as important as our national security is politicized to the point of ridiculousness - on both sides of the spectrum. Nevertheless, rhe fact that so many are wringing their hands and squriming in their chairs over the distribution of a DVD which clearly illustrates the nature of our enemy - RADICAL Islamic TERRORISTS - shows that a significant minority in this post 9/11 world, too many people, fall in 2 camps: denial and downright disdain for America. I don't know what else it could be.

Let me know if anyone needs a copy. I can get it to them at no cost to them. :) This is a must see.

Thanks for the reaction to Obsession. It helped with post I did for Inside Islam, a project with University of Wisconsin and public radio. Link: http://insideislam.wisc.edu/index.php/archives/109
