Ahem, about that shift in Florida....
By now we all know that the mainstream media has been trying to sell us on the idea that Cuban-Americans are migrating toward the Democrat Party for 25 years despite the absence of a shred of credible evidence.
But there's a secondary story line that been propagated in more recent years which is that the Republican "stranglehold" over the Hispanic vote in Florida is loosening because of the increase in non-Cuban Hispanics (the basis of this secondary theory concedes the falsehood of the first). Certainly the mix of Cubans to non-Cubans among Hispanics in Florida has changed but such theories assume that the new non-Cuban arrivals are lining up to be Democrats. It doesn't dawn on them that perhaps the liberal message isn't all that attractive to many Hispanics. This is why I have argued in the past that Republicans need to embrace Hispanic immigrants and be the party of legal immigration. Bush had it right with his program for guest workers and McCain had it right with his comprehensive immigration reform.
Well a new CBS-4 poll conducted by Survey USA blows away the mainstream media's new myth. John McCain is beating Obama in a Florida by a margin of 51% to 45%. That margin is largely driven by Hispanics who are favoring McCain by a margin of 55% to 36%.
I wonder what the next wishful thinking story line will be.

Good point, however, unfortunately other Hispanics in New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada are still more inclined towards Barry....mostly Mexican.
But I believe that Palin helps in Colorado and Nevada, New Mexico is in play...even Washington state was close, but I have a feeling BHO still takes it.
Overall, for the longevity of the GOP, we need a middle of the road arrangement, secure borders, 2 millions illegal felons out and work permits but the other 10 million have to pay fines and return in a orderly process...

The country-of-origin mix is different for every state of course, but George W. Bush proved that Republicans can pick up substantial numbers of Mexican Hispanics in his re-election as governor of Texas and his 2004 presidential campaign.

Talk to me after the borders are secured and we have tamperproof identification cards for all immigrants.

Nothing I've said here precludes that.
