Man, if he would have been a Republican, he would have been THE perfect man! Que bello. RIP.

Newman may have been a big time lib, but the man lived his ideals and put his money where his mouth was. His Newman's Own foundation used private money and free enterprise to help countless of people. After his son's death in the '70's he donated money to fund anti-drug films. Locally, in CT, his charitable donations helped many needy and disadvantaged people. He demonstrated beautifully how charity and the free market -- not burdensome government programs -- can be most effective in helping humanity.
Plus, he was the man. "Cool Hand Luke" is still one of the coolest and greatest films ever. His anti-hero persona, mischievous attitude, and the ability to show the frailties of the human psyche is something missing in today's pretty boy actors. I will miss him greatly but continue watching his films. Go rent "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Cool Hand Luke" this weekend. You won't be disappointed.
