Nothing To Buy

True leftist revolutionaries have to “believe” in the party. Their purpose is to “change” society by putting all their “hope” in an all knowing and feeling leader. No, I’m not talking about the Democratic nominee for president’s campaign. I’m talking about Cuba where true revolutionaries are taught to be like Che. Che didn’t believe in the laws of supply and demand. They were useless and antiquated bourgeois beliefs that had to be resisted and overcome at all cost-usually by force.

Things in Cuba haven’t changed much since its ex-Economics Minister made the jump from guerrilla economics to t-shirts.

As the supplies of vegetables and fruits have declined in Cuba’s heretic “supply and demand” farmers markets due to the crop damage caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike, the prices have risen.

To combat the rising prices, the regime could have accepted the aid being offered by the US and the EU-increase the supply, but instead it has decided to resist market forces, by force, and freeze prices at the farmers markets.

As a result of the price freeze, there is nothing to buy at the farmer’s markets, at any price-except maybe some dingy Che Guevara t-shirts to remind Cubans why their country is forever frozen in 1959 and they have nothing to feed their kids.

If only they really were frozen in 1959 when there was still food on the shelves and the place didn't look like Beirut.

The picture on the right looks like something out of Africa. Very sad!
