Palin Unleashes Obama/Ayers Connection...
And the MSM is already calling it a mistake that could "backfire" on McCain.
So says the AP's Douglass Daniel, who editorializes on Palin's campaign speeches yesterday in which she attacked Obama's judgment and character. Here's a sample of Mr. Daniel's assertions (the entire analysis can be found here):
By claiming that Democrat Barack Obama is "palling around with terrorists" and doesn't see the U.S. like other Americans, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin targeted key goals for a faltering campaign. And though she may have scored a political hit each time, her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret.
First, Palin's attack shows that her energetic debate with rival Joe Biden may be just the beginning, not the end, of a sharpened role in the battle to win the presidency.
"Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin told a group of donors in Englewood, Colo. A deliberate attempt to smear Obama, McCain's ticket-mate echoed the line at three separate events Saturday.
"This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America," she said. "We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism."
...
In her character attack, Palin questions Obama's association with William Ayers, a member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground. Her reference was exaggerated at best if not outright false. No evidence shows they were "pals" or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career.
...
Second, Palin's incendiary charge draws media and voter attention away from the worsening economy. It also comes after McCain supported a pork-laden Wall Street bailout plan in spite of conservative anger and his own misgivings.
Well, I don't know about you, but working in a board with someone, having that same person kick off your political career...perhaps they don't sit around and drink beer on Sundays watching football, but it's safe to say that their relationship is, to say the least, cordial.
Would you have a cordial relationship with a avowed terrorist? I guess Obama can, and totally get away with it in the eyes of some in the MSM.
As far as the "racial tinges" of Palin's comments about Obama's criticism of America, that's just plain BS. If Mr. Daniel wants to see it that way, fine, but it's always the liberals and the media who bring up the race card, isn't it? I don't think Obama is anti-American, and it's silly to even think he might be. But Palin's referring to critical comments Obama has made about our troops killing innocent civilians, and no doubt also referring to Obama's other highly questionable association with one Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Obama somehow sat through hundreds of the man's sermons and never suspected any angry anti-Americanism on Rev. Wright. Sure.
What Palin is getting at is the far left's chip on its shoulder when it comes to the state of America today. There's little doubt in my mind that, no matter how much Obama may love America, he carries around that little chip that reminds him that not only is America not perfect, but has been the cause of many of the world's problems today.
The Obama camp better be ready, because I have a feeling this is just the beginning. Time will tell how much this will "hurt" McCain. I do know one thing, however, that Obama and his supporters ought to keep in mind:
The truth sometimes hurts.

Robert, "truth" is something liberals and leftist are not in the least acquainted with...

As others have said before me, if Palin had said any of the gaffes Biden has recently, (Roosevelt and tv and 1929, e.g.) the msm would have milked it twenty times a day on every network for days, maybe weeks.
Also, while Palin is busy being great and doing what we want, McCain is busy announcing that he is giving up on Michigan (how many states has Obama announced HE's giving up on?) and chiding Palin for bringing up the Reverend Wright. Does McCain really want to win? This is no time for good cop, bad cop games.
If you want to win, you act like it. In the meantime Obama is spending a fortune on ads misrepresenting McCain's health plan or tax ideas. So let's see, Obama can lie or be outrageous, but we have to be polite.
This is so discouraging.

Obama, when it suits him (i.e., during the primaries) is ambivalent about PDP (public displays of patriotism). Now that it suits him to be more patriotic, he is. Which pose reflects his real views? Who knows. One thing that's clear is that many of his personal associates are anti-Americans or, at best, ambivalent about this country. He's not going to come out and tell us what's in his heart of hearts, so we have to be alert to red flags, and there are several on view here for anyone who cares to look. Caveat emptor.

Interesting tactic by the McCain camp, but I think it's a failed attempt. It will backfire against them and wreak of desperation. Don't get me wrong, I think they are legit criticisms, but to bring them up now in the last month of the debate shows that the McCain camp thinks the only way it can win is to disparage Obama's past relationships instead of winning on its own merits.
