McCain: Obama is a liar

Looks like the gloves are off. Finally.

John McCain’s remarks as prepared for delivery today in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

H/T on video to Ace.

Our current economic crisis is a good case in point. What was his actual record in the years before the great economic crisis of our lifetimes?

This crisis started in our housing market in the form of subprime loans that were pushed on people who could not afford them. Bad mortgages were being backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and it was only a matter of time before a contagion of unsustainable debt began to spread. This corruption was encouraged by Democrats in Congress, and abetted by Senator Obama.

Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed. But the truth is I was the one who called at the time for tighter restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place.

Senator Obama was silent on the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. As recently as September of last year he said that subprime loans had been, quote, “a good idea.” Well, Senator Obama, that “good idea” has now plunged this country into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

To hear him talk now, you’d think he’d always opposed the dangerous practices at these institutions. But there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he did. He was surely familiar with the people who were creating this problem. The executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have advised him, and he has taken their money for his campaign. He has received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senator in history, with the exception of the chairman of the committee overseeing them. Did he ever talk to the executives at Fannie and Freddie about these reckless loans? Did he ever discuss with them the stronger oversight I proposed? If Senator Obama is such a champion of financial regulation, why didn’t he support these regulations that could have prevented this crisis in the first place? He won’t tell you, but you deserve an answer.

The polls, press and pundits have been all doom and gloom for John McCain today and Im thinking theyre all in for a big surprise.

RNC FILES FEC COMPLAINT AGAINST OBAMA CAMPAIGN

WASHINGTON – The Republican National Committee (RNC) today filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against the Obama for America campaign addressing it’s acceptance of foreign national and excessive contributions. The complaint demonstrates that the Obama campaign has failed to comply with federal campaign finance law in its fundraising. RNC Chief Counsel Sean Cairncross released the following statement today concerning the complaint:

“We believe Obama for America has knowingly accepted excessive contributions and donations from foreign nationals, and has failed to take the necessary remedial action required by law. We see this as a wide-scale problem and it appears the Obama campaign may be in substantial noncompliance with federal campaign finance laws. Barack Obama broke his word to the American people and refused to accept public financing, and now his campaign appears to be disregarding the rules and laws that govern federal campaigns. Senator Obama routinely mentions the word ‘change’ on the campaign trail, yet it seems the only changes he supports are ones that personally benefit his own political aspirations.”

A Democrat cheating on campaign finance law? My, how out of character.

Its about Time that McCain took off the gloves. Also the country needs to stop calling OBAMA a liberal. The correct word is SOCIALIST.
The slogan should be OBAMA/SOCIALIST.

Bring on the smackdown!

This will be interesting to see how it's received. Personally, I think it's a bit desperate considering the timing. Had this been more out there months back, it might have had more effect. I think some of the questionable ties are legit and Obama's camp has done little to dispell the shady connection, but at this point, this will probably backfire on McCain. BEsides, I think the public will look at this and say, "I don't want to see mudslinging, I want to see how McCain can fix the mess we're in", etc.

Gumercindo,
Why is it mudslinging to ask a question, to question an association? Name me the terrorists McCain associates with. Name me the America haters that are among McCain's friends.
I don't trust Obama because he has too many friends who don't like this country. I can't see his economic policies doing anything except taking us down the road to socialism. I don't want us to look like Cuba.
Get real.

Considering the short media life of political soundbites, I think now is perfect timing. I hope they keep it up right through election day.

honey, like I said in my post, it's perfecly legit to question associations. But, the timing of it wreaks desperation. like I said, people don't want to hear about this kind of stuff (no matter how much of a reach some of these associations are) - they'd rather hear substantive things like how they're going to fix the economy.

As for his economic policies leading down the path towards solicalism, cmon now, let's not get crazy. If elected, do you think he'd be the first democratic president to espouse democratic ideals like class warfare? Hardly.

It does not reek of desperation to name these associations. I wonder why this hasn't been pounded home consistently from the first. It isn't that it's just Reverend Wright, and Rezko and Edward Said, and so many he names as advisers who I would not want as advisers to my president, it's his generosity and association with Acorn, so many radical Muslim and radical African leaders. The list is endless. What is his interest in all of these bad actors? There is so much that is unknowable about this man.
And, if all of that is not bad enough, he chooses Biden, who gave a debate performance that was so lame and so full of lies. Obama constantly talks about racism if anyone questions anything and then blames others for having racism when he is the only one bringing it up. He talks about the dirty campaign tactics of McCain when all McCain is doing is questioning the very things that are questionable to me. And then Obama runs ads that lie about McCain's health care plan. You may not like anyone asking these questions, but they are real concerns.

gumercindo,

Que casualidad how your statements echo EXACTLY the Obama camps statements. If I didnt know any better......

Posted by: Val Prieto [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 7, 2008 09:24 AM

Val: It doesn't take a rocket scientist to come to the conclusion that McCain is getting down and dirty (both Rs and Ds see this). When you look at the timing of it, any non-partisan person can see the urgency (I call it desperation) of the move. Btw, don't you think it's interesting that all this is coming out now when it's been "out there" for months? Don't you think the timing of it is curious? why now? It's b/c they see this as their last card, imo.
