A reflection on Tuesday's election

Received this from my friend Tony S. this morning.

Staring into the Abyss

To all my friends, brothers, and sisters in Christ -

I had a fitful night's sleep last night, unable to go back to sleep at around 4:45 A.M. and sleep at least till 6:00 or 7:00 on a Saturday morning. Sleeping escaped me because I knew I was staring into the abyss, and, as the virulent 19th century German atheist F. Nietzsche put it, when you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you. What is staring back at me is the nightmare of an Obama presidency.

What else can be pointed out that hasn't already been mentioned?

  • 20 years at a "church" where -- routinely -- white people were denounced and America cursed; the new "pastor" is a carbon copy of the now retired one;

  • a circle of associates all of whom hate America (Limbaugh: "What do Ahmadinejad and Obama have in common? They both pal around with and sleep with people who hate America."; Limbaugh: "What do Obama & Bin Laden have in common? They both have a friend who bombed the Pentagon.");

  • a resume that can fit on the back of his driver's license;

  • a vehement wealth redistributionist who admires Marx, thinks the Warren Court wasn't all that radical, and wants to use the constitution to bring about his version of economic justice (whatever that is);

  • a Saul Alinski-trained community "organizer" (clever euphemism for rabble-rouser) who is allied with the most prolific voter fraud outfit in the history of the subject;

  • the most liberal of all 100 senators & most rabid pro-abortionist in the history of the entire debate;

  • someone who doesn't know the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day; who claims his grandfather helped liberate Auschwitz; who thinks there are 57 states; who says if we get tune-ups and inflate tires, that will obviate drilling for oil; who promises 95% of us a tax cut when 38% don't pay any taxes (read: welfare);

  • someone whose allegiance to Israel is questionable at best, given his equivocation on the status of Jerusalem and affinity to Rashid Khalidi, the outspoken Jew hater and Arafat afficionado;

  • someone who actually believes he can negotiate a nuclear arms treaty with the likes of Putin and persuade the maniacal president of Iran to mollify his belligerence toward America & Israel, all on the strength of his winsome personality, something so completely delusional that this alone should disqualify him from being put in charge of national security.

But all of this falls short of the worst part: America deteriorating into a secular state like France, England, or Germany. Make no mistake about it: Soros, Neas, Hollywood, Hamas, and most of the rest of the deep-pocketed donors behind their messiah want our Judeo-Christian heritage eradicated as quickly and thoroughly as humanly possible, and they are on the verge of finally getting their way. If their messiah gets in, I predict that within 4 years, 1) homosexual marriage will be passed into law; 2) the speech codes that govern college campuses will infect society at large -- specifically, the right of preachers to denounce homosexuality publicly without fear of governmental reprisal; 3) all aspects of abortion will become entrenched in legality and will be more heavily funded than ever; 4) the scourge of all the earth, militant Islam, will enjoy noticeably increased hegemony in this country. Take a look at pictures of London, Paris, and Amsterdam and see what forsaking one's Judeo-Christian heritage nets you; and 5) churches will have considerable trouble funding missions when he is through with our economy. People without a job can't support the kingdom of God.

As a Bible believing Christian, I must admit to being more than just a little conflicted, and I am in great pains to adopt a posture toward this election that at once benefits my country and at the same time pleases the God who commands us to remain strangers & pilgrims in this world (I Pe. 2:11) and not to mind the things on earth but heavenly things (Col. 3:2). It's not easy. That being said, only one vote will determine if we remain a relatively free & prosperous country or if we deteriorate precipitously into a secular state, and that vote belongs to God. If you believe the Bible, then you also believe what is stated without reservation in Rom. 13:1 and 3 times in Daniel 4, namely, that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and he gives it unto whomsoever he will. Vote if you want to, as I intend to, but a unified & passionate cry to our God on the part of his people carries more far weight than the $300-400 million his admirers have donated and may very well move God to vote against their messiah.

Come Wednesday, if we are treated to the words "President-elect Obama", then what I have been fearing for 25 or so years will have finally come to pass: the bills for our sinking morality are now due & payable, and the American dream as we know it is all but over. As my late father-in-law stated so elequently, "You can't murder a million babies a year and expect no retributive response, if there's a God." On the other hand, if their messiah loses, thank neither Ohio, talk radio, nor Republican efforts to get out the vote -- but rather the Living God who will have heard the cry of his people and was entreated of by them.

I am praying the prayer of Daniel 9:4ff, and I am praying it more fervently than I ever have, and I am begging God for undeserved mercy on behalf of the United States of America. Please join with me. The abyss is a frightening sight.
