What has happened to our standards?
A longtime friend of Babalublog and frequent commenter, Melek, has written an excellent essay about Barack Obama and how America has seemed to lower its standards for qualifications of a president. Jose from Cubanology has published her essay in his latest CubaReport.
Make sure to check it out.

Thanks Alberto!
It's sad that we are so close to electing a president of whom we know less than more ... every time I learn something about him, I realize how little we know of who the real Obama is ... his own accounts from his two books have become the only "truth" we are to know and dare not question ... regardless if all the legitimate concerns are relevant to defining his character and thus the way he will govern our country. At the end of the day ... it has nothing to do if he's moslem or was a moslem at one time, but a lot to do with honesty ... it has nothing to do with his color, but a lot with his character and judgment ... which IMO ... does not show poor judgment, but a deliberate judgment to seek and associate with those holding radical, socialist and anti-American views ... from his youth mentor, Frank M. Davis, a communist ... to the fact that the owner of the Chicago-based agency which designed his logo, Sol Sender ... is the grandson of Spanish novelist and educator,Ramon Jose Sender, a well known anarchist and communist, exiled from Franco's Spain ... common sense dictates that there's not a chance, that I can consider all these to be simple coincidences in Obama's life.
I wish you well :) Melek

Melek,
It pains me to say that the American people have lost their standards for political candidates and will pay a very painful price for it.
